Job Summary:


ACCC at UIC is seeking an IT Manager / Administrative Coordinator (Windows/Linux Systems Engineering Supervisor)


Under general supervision provides systems engineering support including monitoring, troubleshooting and resolving systems issues with email, web servers, database management, backup management, and storage management.  Provides management and assistance, where necessary, to the Backup and Storage Team, configures and tests computer hardware, operating system software.

We excel at supporting 40,000 staff, faculty and students across a diverse and comprehensive university in the heart of Chicago. Our services include campus wide networking, teaching and learning, identity and access management, communications, research computing, IT security, application development, web services, compliance and more.


This position will require On-call support responsibilities for the unit on evenings, holidays, and weekend hours are required for emergencies and to maintain service operations as needed; including during maintenance periods.






Duties:


Key Responsibilities/Duties:



  • Manage and facilitate virtual/physical Linux infrastructure for both the department and Campus depending on needs. Manage and facilitate usage of backup systems for departmental and University servers and desktops. Manage and facilitate the Linux infrastructure for the secure computing environment for the campus.

  • Develop methodology to expand flexibility of programs and systems to meet the changing needs of departments. Define procedures to satisfy these needs including, but not limited to, SLAs and Usage Policy.

  • Create and maintain system component descriptions, active tracking of current and future license needs and renewals for software and maintenance.

  • Manage day-to-day office operations of Linux team. Interview, hire, orient, lead, mentor and evaluate staff to meet departmental and organizational needs.  Allocates work to others and is responsible for ensuring tasks are completed. Primary focus is on day to day activities of 3 or more people.

  • Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned.






Qualifications:


Minimum Acceptable Qualifications Required:



  1. Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or closely related discipline.
  2. Minimum of 6 years of progressively more responsible work experience in an IT profession, of which a minimum of 2 years of experience is within a supervisory or Lead worker capacity.
  3. Demonstrated experience in Systems Administration which includes; configuration, installation, maintenance, backup / recovery and upgrading multi-user computer systems hardware and software as well as establishing/managing user accounts
  4. Knowledge of Storage Area Networks/Network Attached Storage. Backups and backup systems and software, including but not limited to Tivoli Storage Manager (TSM) and CommVault.
  5. Knowledge of MySQL database systems, with demonstrated ability to create and execute queries
  6. Linux/Unix and Windows Operation Systems
  7. Python, PERL and BASH scripting experience
  8. Skilled in PERL, Python, and C/C++ programming languages
