Machine Learning Engineer at D-Wave Systems (Burnaby, BC, Canada)

Machine Learning Engineer (Quadrant)

Quadrant is building tomorrow's machine learning (ML) algorithms. Our team of researchers has come from a variety of disciplines and collectively has expertise in a wide range of domains including traditional machine learning, computer science, pure math, optimization, and statistical physics. We share a passion for developing novel machine learning approaches and applying them in new domains. We've inherited our dedication to leading-edge research from D-Wave Systems, our parent company, which is pioneering the development of real-world quantum computation. We publish in the most prestigious ML conferences (NIPS, ICML, ICLR, CVPR), have active collaborations with a variety of universities, and regularly advance state-of-the-art benchmark performance.

We're motivated by solving problems in genomics, computational chemistry, image understanding, and process control, amongst others. In many of these domains large labeled datasets are unavailable and we've developed specialized methods which exploit generative learning to enable learning even in data-poor regimes.

We need your help! We're looking for ML software engineers to develop efficient implementations of advanced ML algorithms. Your passion for the both algorithms and fast implementations will allow you to pioneer the next generation of learning algorithms. Your software will be used both internally and deployed to customer sites.

We’re looking for you to bring a solid understanding of both deterministic and probabilistic methods and have demonstrated experience with a wide range of ML implementations in Python/TensorFlow. Experience in Monte Carlo methods is particularly valued.

The role:

  • Participating in all phases of the design and development efforts in the ML team.

  • Designing, coding and unit testing new functions; improvements to existing ML code base.

  • Developing high performance software using TensorFlow

  • Participation in architectural, design and product discussions.

Your experience:

  • Excellent Python and C++ coding skills; experience with TensorFlow and/or CUDA

  • Strong math and algorithms background

  • Understanding of different methods of machine learning, both deterministic and probabilistic

  • Deep understanding of computer science fundamentals in object-oriented design, data structures, and algorithm design

  • Understanding of software engineering best practices

  • Ability to write clean code, even when working on hard problems

  • Strong communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team
