Engineering Team Culture:
We are polyglots: We believe in using the most appropriate, read – the best, tech stack for the job. We use Angular and React to build web properties. We build APIs in Java, Akka, Scala and Node.js. We rely on python and Spark when working with lots of data. We deploy everything to the Cloud.
We pair program: You pick your machine: Windows or Mac. Our floors are open space with no cubicles or private offices, regularly pair programming and mobbing when working. Communication is key to our approach, and we don't want to hinder it with walls, real or metaphorical.
We are Agile: Development methodologies mean different things to different people. For us? We have a story card wall and release a few times a week. We keep the team in sync with daily stand-ups and have a retrospective once a month to discuss things that are going well and opportunities for improvements. We surround teams with everything they need, Scrum Masters to coach us on process, Product Owners to make sense of the work, Pod Leaders to help with our careers and Competency Leads to facilitate technical design and provide mentorship in advanced technical skills. We are finding new ways of working that allow us to continuously improve delivery of value with high levels of cadence and quality.
Types of projects we work on:
As part of the AirMiles technology team, you will be responsible for building our new digital platform and defining our web development process, including design, development and deployment. We will rely on your knowledge of the digital industry trends, web platforms, frameworks and tools to help us deliver the best experience for our customers.
As a member of the team, your technical skills and mentorship will be key to our success. You will be accountable to both adopt and seek to improve our efforts in reaching high standards of code quality through progressive development methodologies.
It will be your accountability to design, implement, unit test, and integrate different demanding components while working closely with team leads and product owners to ensure successful design, development, and seamless implementation into production.
What we look for in you:
Ability and desire to work in our collaborative environment: open team room, pair programming and fluid interactions with all products and operations teams.
Focusing on building solutions utilizing an agile approach: close relationships with Product Managers, communicating and digesting real time feedback, and working smartly to build story cards on daily basis.
You are self-driven, need minimal supervision and comfortable pushing your own projects and getting things done.
Excellent communication skills to ensure alignment with end users, UX designers and back-end developers.
Who we’re looking for
- Strong knowledge of front-end development frameworks like React and Angular
- Strong knowledge of JavaScript and the latest ECMAScript standards
- Strong understanding of responsive web design techniques, tools and strategies
- Experience with Microservices and RESTful web services
- Experience with Amazon AWS or other cloud platforms
- Experience with Agile engineering methodologies
- Experience with CI/CD practices and tools (Jenkins, Travis, github)
- Ability to identify challenges directly
- Knowledge in mentoring and training of employees
- Strong communication and motivational skill
- Team orientated and able to work independently
