Wikimedia Foundation is seeking a Systems Administrator to manage, support and improve office operational systems, networks and security. This position will be a member of the Office Information Technology Team. Daily tasks include Tier 2-3 escalation and resolution, working on projects, constantly improving systems and  documenting/updating on our Office Wiki. You will be resourceful in determining resolution and conveying this information both written and verbally. You will be working with a small highly communicative and collaborative Team where end-user support is a priority. Your goal will be to ensure that our technology infrastructure runs smoothly and efficiently. You will be working out of our SF Headquarters.  


Summary:


Will be responsible for the following:



  • Maintain and support physical network infrastructure

  • Maintain and support systems including Disaster Recovery and Business Continuity

  • Ticket support duties (Tier 2-3) *serve as Tier 1 backup when necessary

  • Maintain Security and Network processes, policies and infrastructure (including compliance with GDPR)

  • Assists in projects regarding strategic growth of OIT systems

  • Collaborate with vendors and outside contractors as needed


Requirements:



  • At least 3+ years in an IT systems support role with responsibility for a company environment or equivalently sized organization

  • BS in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Information Systems or the equivalent in work experience

  • Experience with the following tools and technologies:


    • JAMF, G-Suite, Zendesk

    • Linux servers

    • VLANs, and Routing

    • DNS (bind), DHCP, LDAP, Puppet

    • Virtualization technology such as VMWare, Xen or other

    • Network and server monitoring tools (Meraki)


  • Responsive to end-users: able to anticipate, understand and meet the needs of a focused team of professionals

  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills; ability to clearly communicate with a variety of interdisciplinary teams and end-users (technical and non-technical)

  • Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities including balancing urgent needs with long-term planning work

  • Ability to document How To Guides, systems and processes on the office internal wiki

  • Be comfortable in a highly collaborative, communicative and consensus-oriented environment

  • Proven ability to proactively secure and improve Office IT systems, work well on a team and bring leadership to all levels of their work

  • Ability to assist in mentoring colleagues

  • Awareness and support experience of FLOSS tools

  • Assist in maintaining OIT workspace environment (including Server Room and Inventory)

  • Must be able to lift 20 lbs or more


Pluses



  • Familiarity with Asterisk/FreePBX phone system is a plus

  • Ability to create and manage PHP, Python, Perl or other scripts

  • Experience with PGP and Security Best Practices

  • Experience with AV equipment and networked audio DSP solutions, such as Q-SYS or Biamp

  • Experience with BGP

  • Experience with wikis and participatory production environments

  • Understanding of the free culture movement
