Senior Android Developer at Axios (New York, NY) (allows remote)

Quick Take: Axios is a new digital media company that tells you what matters and why to make you smarter, faster. We're hiring a Senior Android Engineer.

Why it Matters: We need a Senior Android Engineer who will lead architecture and development work for our native reading and contributing tools for mobile devices. This is a high-visibility opportunity that will allow you to play a major role in shaping development culture and product architecture for a start-up that is unapologetically fixing media.

Go Deeper: You recognize that apps should look and function in a way that feels native to the platform. You are the kind of Droid enthusiast who can help check iOS design bias and call out if something feels wrong or foreign.

The Details: You don’t like doing blue bubble things in a green bubble world. You have worked on everything from the deep underpinnings of persistence architecture to building custom controls, all the way up to the fine polish of implementing engaging animations. We’re looking for the following skillset:

  • 4+ years professional experience

  • Experience with at least one real world app in the Android app stores or a project you can show us

  • Demonstrated experience in Java, with familiarity in Kotlin

  • Deep knowledge of the Android platform, including the Android SDK and tools/frameworks such as Android Studio and Gradle

  • Experience with performance profiling using Android Profiler

  • Experience with code signing and marketplace app distribution

  • Strong understanding of memory management and asynchronous programming

  • Experience developing heavily network-based apps that consume RESTful JSON APIs

  • Strong foundation in Google Material Design principles and guidelines

  • Understanding of distributed version control systems like Git

  • Familiarity with unit and automated UI testing

  • Experience with CI and automated deployment systems is a plus

  • Experience with iOS is a plus

Don't Forget:

  • Competitive salary

  • Health insurance (100% paid for individuals, 75% for families)

  • Primary caregiver 12-week paid leave

  • 401K

  • Generous vacation policy, plus company holidays

  • Company equity

  • Commuter and cell phone benefit

  • A commitment to an open, inclusive, and diverse work culture

  • Learning and development stipend
