Job Description:
First Orion is seeking a talented Senior Data Scientist to join a leading mobile software vendor in the Data Solutions Group. Individuals in this role will use their intense curiosity and data mining skills to dive into large data sets. They will be asked to use their discoveries to build and shape the products and solutions that will be the foundation for First Orion's success in the future.
Core Responsibilities:
- Data discovery – identifying patterns and characteristics within the data warehouse(s)
- Statistical model creation – creating scoring and predictive models utilizing statistical concepts paired with data discovery techniques
- Data categorization – performing data aggregation functions and determining ways to categorize data components based upon existing and/or future client needs
- Data requirements gathering for the creation of new models, solutions, or products
- Data quality monitor – creating and monitoring the data quality metrics required to maintain defined quality thresholds
- New product/solution planning – assist in defining new data products or solutions for future business opportunities
Required Skills:
- Experience with Machine learning/statistical techniques and tools (Spark MLlib and Scikit-Learn)
- Experience with SQL / NoSQL systems
- Programming expertise in a language of your choice (Java/Scala/Python preferred)
- Familiar with interactive notebook (Zeppelin and Jupyter)
- High curiosity for data discovery
- Ability to perform verbal and visual storytelling with data
- Self-starter able to work independently without constant supervision
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Economics (strong econometrics focus)
Nice to Have Skills:
- Prior experience in the telecommunications industry
- Amazon Web Services experience
- Hadoop/Spark experience
- AWS Redshift experience
- Knowledge about big data platforms
