Organizational Setting and Reporting Relationships:

This position is located in the Translation Team of the Unite Conferences Software Solutions Unit (UCSS), Enterprise Application Center Section (EAC-VN), Information Technology Service (ITS), Division for Management (DM), UNOV/UNODC, in Vienna. The incumbent will work under the overall supervision of the Officer-in-Charge, EAC, and under the direct supervision of the Senior Computational Linguist, heading UCSS.

 Responsibilities:

• 
  
• Develop, test, debug, implement and maintain UCSS applications for the documentation, meetings and translation management
• 
  
• Develop, test, debug, implement and maintain applications using UCSS standard web based and client server development frameworks and technologies ASP.NET, MVC, C#, WCF, MS SQL Server
• 
  
• Develop, test, debug and implement applications using UCSS standard development methodology and tools, Scrum, Agile, TFS
• 
  
• Develop UCSS applications optimized code within .NET framework using Entity Framework Code First or other ORMs to carry out database transactions efficiently, data processing logic using stored procedures and triggers
• 
  
• Carry out all required testing and quality assurance and ensure that deliverables meet software requirements based on agreed time frame and milestones
• 
  
• Provide assistance and training to the end users and write comprehensive technical documentation using UCSS standard tools TFS, EA and ensure that the application code is described clearly
• 
  
• Report to the immediate supervisor on daily or weekly progress as required
• 
  
• Perform other work related duties as required
• 
  

Experience: A minimum of five years of relevant experience in information systems analysis and programming, systems administration and maintenance, software development, technical writing or related area, including the following, is required:

• 
  
• A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in designing and developing web applications using ASP.NET and C# is required;
• 
  
• A minimum of 3 years of working experience in the following technologies: MVC, Javascript, MS SQL Server, HTML5, XML, JQuery, ORM is required;
• 
  
• Basic understanding of security issues related to web-based applications is required;
• 
  
• Skilled in SQL in order to maintain and debug all server-side SQL scripts (triggers, views, stored procedures) is required;
• 
  
• Experience in distributed deployment of applications to the different geographical and time zone locations is desirable;
• 
  
• Knowledge of the following technologies is an advantage: Redis, Angular.js, Vue.js, CSS, LESS, SASS, CSS Frameworks(zurb, bootstrap, etc), machine learning, lucene/lucene.net, responsive web application design, TFS, Visual Studio, MS SQL Server Reporting Services, Entity Framework (Code First), MS Build, LLGBGEN.

Language:  English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat.  For the position advertised, fluency in English is required. Knowledge of another official United Nations language is an advantage.
