Full Stack Developer at Solutions by Design II (Fairfax, VA)

Solutions By Design II, LLC (SBD) is looking for a talented Full Stack Developer to build the back-end and front end of our new web-based applications for our Federal Health IT client at the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS).  The Full Stack Developer will be part of a team building a new enterprise web-enabled business application, and will also support other content management system development efforts. This includes the design, development, test, and implementation of new functionalities including migration of data from the legacy system.


Responsibilities include:



  • Define and implement innovative solutions for the product direction, visuals and experience using Agile processes

  • Product management

  • Use markup languages like HTML to create user-friendly web pages

  • Maintain and improve website

  • Optimize applications for maximum speed

  • Get feedback from, and build solutions for, users and customers to improve usability

  • Write functional requirement documents and guides

  • Create quality mockups and prototypes

  • Coding and troubleshooting

  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency

  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies


The Full Stack Developer will be proficient, if not fluent, in the following:



  • Server, network, and hosting environment

  • Relational and nonrelational databases

  • How to interact with APIs and the external world

  • User interface and user experience

  • Quality assurance

  • Security concerns throughout the program

  • Understanding customer and business needs

  • Database administration including automated cleanup


Desired Skills and Experience:



  • Prior experience supporting Federal agencies including HHS, CMS or other health IT business domain.

  • Knowledge and experience with CMS-specific lifecycles a plus (e.g., XLC).

  • Understand basic fundamentals of iterative development

  • Understand basic fundamentals of software development processes and procedures

  • Understand incremental delivery and the value of metrics

  • Familiarity with common Agile practices, service-oriented environments, and better development practices

  • Experience with Amazon Web Services (AWS)

  • Experience designing mobile-based features
