POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently searching for a DevOps engineer to join our Product Operations Team! We are looking for a candidate that demonstrates strong technical knowledge with a passion for service. As a DevOps engineer at Avero, you’ll work collaboratively with our engineering team to deploy and operate our systems. Your primary focus will be to automate and streamline our operations and processes, build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations, and troubleshoot and resolve issues in our dev, staging and production environments.
Our product operations team maintains both our cloud-based and on-premise infrastructure that provides the foundation for all of Avero’s products. The team leverages the latest cutting-edge technologies to provide high availability and high performing systems for the engineering team. Our DevOps team follows the Everything-as-Code philosophy to create a stable, robust and dynamic infrastructure that can adapt quickly to emerging technology trends.
Projects that require DevOps support include systems that interface with food and beverage point of sales (POS) system to collect sales information, systems that provide for social media listening, language detection and geo-fencing, big data analytics for predictive purchasing models, and more.
WHAT YOU’LL DO:
· Build and maintain Amazon Web Services cloud infrastructure (as code) including, but not limited to, the following:
· Compute – EC2, ECS, Lambda
· Storage – S3, EFS, Glacier, Storage Gateway
· Database – RDS
· Networking – VPC, Route 53
· Management – CloudWatch, Auto Scaling
· Analytics – EMR, Elasticsearch
· Security – IAM, Certificate Manager
· Application Integration/Messaging – SES, SNS, SQS
· Migration of on-premise monolithic application infrastructure to cloud-based microservices
· Design and implement monitoring and alerting systems
· Explore, implement and test new technologies
· Participate in on-call pager rotation
· Champion operational excellence, actively participating in the process of development and continuous improvement
· Provide technical support to your team members, take ownership of your work, and always be learning
· Participate in code reviews, defining and refining your team’s process
WHAT YOU'LL NEED:
· Either a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, or related field, with 2+ years of related experience; or high school equivalency with 5+ years of related experience
· Strong understanding of the core concepts of DevOps, microservices, systems administration, and monitoring/alerting
· Languages – Java, Groovy, Python, Perl, (Powershell a plus)
· Build tools – Maven, Gradle, Ant
· Infrastructure Tools – Terraform, Chef, Packer, CloudFormation
· Container Infrastructure – Docker and Docker Compose, ECS, Mesos
· Databases – MongoDB, PostgreSQL, MS SQL Server, Oracle
· Elastic Stack – Elasticsearch, Logstash, Kibana
· Source Control – Git and Bitbucket
· Basic Linux administration including shell scripting
· Other Requirements:
· Deep understanding of how culture and dynamics create exceptional teams
· Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment
