QA Tester at Shelter, the housing and homelessness charity (Bristol, UK)

Shelter is looking for a results-driven QA Tester with experience of testing web and mobile applications, websites and associates technologies (HTML, Javascript, CSS) , to help increase the robustness of our digital estate.

Shelter helps millions of people every year struggling with bad housing or homelessness through our advice, support and legal services. And we campaign to make sure that, one day, no one will have to turn to us for help. We’re here so no one has to fight bad housing or homelessness on their own.

As well as doing exciting service design work that affects our digital offering, the helpline, and our centres around the country, our Digital team also builds digital tools to campaign for change, and fundraise to keep Shelter running. And, with a new leadership team working on a fresh organisational strategy, the team has received additional investment to expand their capacity to meet the challenges ahead. Put simply, this is a great opportunity to shape how technology works for Shelter within a cross-functional team that spans front and back end development, QA, UX/UI, content production, social media, analytics and more.

About the role

Joining a busy in-house development team of front-end development, back-end development and QA, you’ll be working on innovative projects and products, including complex web-based applications, in an agile environment. A great opportunity to take the next step in your testing career, you’ll have the chance to focus on automation testing and work with tools like Selenium WebDriver with Java and a BDD approach, within our small product teams. Quality assuring the ROI of digital products, estimating work packages, designing test automation plans, recording test results and logging and tracking defects – these are just some aspects of this exciting role.

About you

Ideally, you have a background in manual testing and a good understanding (and some level of experience) of automation testing tools, techniques and methodologies like Selenium WebDriver, Junit, BDD and Cucumber with any OOPs based languages (Java/ C#). We’ll also be looking for some experience of writing and executing test cases and acceptance criteria. Adept at using a bug reporting tool (JIRA/Bugzilla/SVN) and building management tools such as Maven, Ant, Gradle and MSBuild, your knowledge of agile methodologies is pretty good too. What's more, you have excellent communications and time management skills and a real enthusiasm for working as part of a friendly team in a fast-paced environment.

Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, the possibility of flexible working, enhanced family friendly policies and significant opportunities for learning and development.

Shelter is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of clients, in particular children, young people and vulnerable adults, and expects all staff, workers and volunteers to share this commitment.
