Overview
We want to grow our DevOps service to join the areas where we already have expertise – software development, data and analytics, program management, Agile, and business analysis. We need a rising leader to help take our DevOps service area to the next level.
The DevOps Manager we need is a consultant and thought leader responsible for contributing to the vision for DevOps at Excella. Assisting to build Excella’s capability and capacity for doing awesome DevOps work that has a real and lasting impact on our clients, the DevOps Manager works on teams and with teams in “hands on” roles close to the technology and as a coach. The DevOps Manager also connects with the DevOps community to help build Excella’s reputation as a thought leader, cultivate our exceptional culture, and establish Excella as the place where the DevOps community connects, shares, and learns.

Responsibilities
- Inspire and motivate others through his or her leadership.
- Assist in defining DevOps-related strategic initiatives and help in communicating the vision at all levels.
- Actively mentor Excella’s DevOps consultants.
- Collaborate with the Service Area Lead and other corporate leaders on company initiatives.
- Collaborate with our industry partners to place Excella’s DevOps consultants into challenging, rewarding roles on projects.
- Create DevOps content for internal and external consumption and encourage others to do it, as well – presentations, white papers, workshops, blog posts, training classes, open source contributions.
- Have a presence in the local DevOps community.
- Consult directly (i.e., be billable) to clients and account teams.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of engineering/systems experience
- Experience in a formal or informal leadership role
- Experience working with organizations through DevOps transformations.
- Experience building deployment pipelines, operating on cloud platforms, and managing systems in production.
- Breadth and depth with:
- Configuration management tools, like Puppet, Chef, and Ansible.
- Pipeline tools, like Jenkins and Git.
- Cloud platforms and operating systems, like AWS and Linux.
- Software development experience with languages such as Java, Ruby, C#, Node.JS, and Python.
- Demonstrated involvement and contribution to the DevOps community.
- Experience engaging with stakeholders at different levels and with different perspectives.
- Outstanding mentoring and teaching abilities.
- Experience using Agile methods to deliver solutions.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation).
