We are currently looking for an innovative Senior Java Developer to help strengthen and mentor our team of young ambitious IT professionals at our DEGIRO Sofia office. DEGIRO is a Dutch FinTech headquartered in Amsterdam with a large office in Sofia. Our IT Team consists of around 50 people, which we are now looking at doubling in size across Amsterdam and Sofia within the next 12 months. This is why we are looking for strong senior developers and leaders to help take the team, architecture and platform maturity to the next level.
Developing our software in house based on open standards from the start has resulted in very creative, innovative and efficient solutions for our company processes and allows us to quickly adapt to a rapidly changing environment.
The Senior Java Developer is a seasoned professional with deep technical knowledge of design patterns, design frameworks combined with a sharp business acumen and long experience of orchestrating complex IT projects and good people skills. Prior experience in the field of financial/insurance or FinTech experience is an advantage. As member of the local senior experts’ team he/she will be responsible for making sure the technical decision made will ensure the code is future-proof, modular, reusable and maintainable not just in the short term but for years to come. Business teams and stakeholders are present both at the Amsterdam and Sofia offices. Incidental travel to the Amsterdam office will be required (typically 2-3 times per year) with an initial 1-2 month on-boarding period in Amsterdam.
Your role
- Make architectural and technological decisions together with the development team;
- Ensure code by him/herself and more junior colleagues is always best-in-class;
- Provide helicopter view technical expertise and guidance;
- Promote simplicity, design pattern and framework standardization within the organization;
- Improve existing architectural structures and help design teams create new features from concept to production;
- Collaborate with product owners, business departments and other stakeholders;
- Constantly help improve quality of codebase, flexibility of the development ecosystem and capacity of the team;
- Help attract best-in-class talent from the local market;
- Help decide on good tooling both for development work and production support.
Requirements
- 8+ years of hands-on Java development experience out of which at least 5+ as an architect or mentoring and coaching others;
- Degree in Computer Science, IT or a related field or equivalent professional experience;
- Full SDLC exposure and prior experience of agile and DevOps delivery methods;
- Good documentation and commentary skills so that he/she can draw, explain and facilitate workshops to help others understand what is expected;
- Familiar with pro’s and con’s of different industry frameworks, design patterns and code beautifiers;
- Familiarity with most common development and DevOps tooling as well as test driven development for optimal automated regression testing;
- OCM, OCAJP, OCPJP or similar experience/certification a big plus;
- Previous familiarity with Kafka, Zookeeper, Git, Jenkins, Spring, Hibernate or similar;
- Existing Bulgarian work permit/EU national;
- Fluency in English is a pre-requisite, fluency in Bulgarian an advantage.
