Position Summary

The Weather Channel Television network is looking for a skilled DevOps Engineer with both Windows and Linux cloud experience. This position will be responsible for design, analysis, evaluation, testing, debugging and implementation of application programs and/or technologies in supporting company business processes, products, and operations.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Understand the business requirements of all TWC networks via positive and effective working relationship with the Business Analysis, Project Management and Product Development teams, ultimately to ensure that the delivered product meets the requirements of the Customer.
  • Implement hardware according to design on complex development efforts.
  • Produce designs and design documentation for complex hardware development efforts and having the ability to clearly describe and communicate the design to the individuals performing the construction of the solution.  
  • Effectively communicate statuses to the Project Manager, as requested throughout all projects.
  • Participate in reviews of all software designs.
  • Provide reviews with other peer Engineers.  
  • Lead efforts to familiarize other team members with the given system, and help educate more junior developers.
  • Respond to production issues, to perform problem determination and resolution, cooperatively with all relevant participants.
  • Help define the technical direction taken by product teams through implementation of alternative products, tools, and methods that can be used to foster innovation and increase product quality and the productivity of Engineering as a whole.


Education, Experience, Certification Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science or equivalent work experience
  • 3 years of relevant experience
  • Experience with both Linux/Unix environment
  • Proficient with at least one scripting language, such as Python, Perl, shell, etc.
  • Proficient with at least one software development language, such as Java, C, C++, etc.
  • Experience with debugging techniques, concepts, and tools in software development
  • Experience supporting SQL Database from a System Engineer and DBA perspective
  • Experience building, maintaining and using configuration/Release management tools, Git, Jenkins, Jira, and other DevOps tools sets
  • Experience supporting and configuring Tomcat/Apache and .Net
  • Experience implementing AWS security policies, Docker, containers, and building complete environments
  • Experience configuring and support CDN video distribution and web caching, both push and pull live streaming video and VOD. Preferred CDN experience Akamai
  • Zabbix and other opensource/DevOps monitoring tool support and maintenance experience


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Ability to develop strong working relationships with the internal customer community as well as peer IT team members
  • Ability to work independently or in a team environment as needed
  • AWS experience with DB services
  • Effective time management, written and oral communication skills
  • Member of a DevOps team for at least 2 years
