Software Engineer - VBA, Excel, Python at JP Morgan Chase (Jersey City, NJ)

As a member of our Software Engineering Group you will dive
head-first into creating innovative solutions that advance businesses and
careers. Youll join an inspiring and curious team of technologists dedicated
to improving the design, analytics, development, coding, testing and
application programming that goes into creating high quality software and new
products. Youll be tasked with keeping the team and other key stakeholders up
to speed on the progress of whats being developed. Coming in with an
understanding of the importance of end-to-end software development-such as
Agile frameworks-is key. And best of all, youll be working with and sharing
ideas, information and innovation with our global team of technologists from
all over the world.

This role requires a wide variety of strengths and capabilities, including:


  • BS/BA degree or equivalent experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of application, data and infrastructure architecture disciplines.
  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems.
  • Working proficiency in developmental toolsets.
  • Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals.
  • Proficiency in one or more general purpose programming languages such as Java, C# is desired.
  • Key tech skills for this role: VBA, Excel, Python and PL/SQL.
  • Understanding of software skills such as business analysis, development, maintenance and software improvement.
  • Good to have business knowledge of simple derivative products (vanilla options, variance swaps, strategies involving vanillas): how these are used, how to price them, how to evaluate risk exposure using Greeks.
  • Knowledge of at least one relational database such as Sybase, SQL Server, Oracle, etc.
  • Disciplined approach to code management, testing and deployment practices and high quality delivery.
  • Ability to work independently on multiple projects and provide updates to stakeholders while also working in the context of a broader global team.
  • Understanding of how to effectively utilize unit testing.
  • Experience of full project lifecycle, breaking requirements down into technical deliverables and effort estimation.
  • Ability to work effectively within a global team (spread across NA, EMEA, APAC etc.) while influencing and contributing towards the development of the global platform.
  • Great problem solving skills for problems with a mathematical/technological background.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced team oriented environment.
  • Good communication skills especially when describing problems and explaining solutions.
  • Understanding of architecture and design across all systems.
  • Ability to collaborate with high-performing teams and individuals throughout the firm to accomplish common goals.
