We are looking for an exceptionally talented individual to serve as an Application Engineer in our Morristown, NJ office. This person will assist the VP of Technology in initiatives including production system administration, DevOps, and security. A strong background in automation is desired. Candidates for this position must have exceptional communication skills, both written and oral. Excellent organizational skills are a must for this fast paced, high visibility position.
Responsibilites
- Strong system administration (Linux/Unix or Windows) at the command-line level.
- Strong scripting skillset (powershell, perl, vbscript, etc.)
- Multi-tier architectures: load balancers, caching, web servers, application servers, databases, and networking.
- Understanding of cloud security best practices.
- Experience with templates and other configurable items to enable automation.
- Familiarity with deployment techniques (and tools) in a distributed environment.
- Basic monitoring techniques in a dynamic environment.
- Design of self-healing and fault-tolerant services.
- Understanding of stateless and loosely coupled distributed applications.
- Familiarity developing with RESTful API interfaces.
- Basic understanding of relational and non-relational databases.
- Familiarity with messaging and queuing services.
- Infrastructure as Code: design and security, configuration management, integration, deployment, performance monitoring and tuning, automation of infrastructure.

- Perform day-to-day operations of line of business and third-party Applications.
- Perform day-to-day database operations with an emphasis on producing and evaluating performance monitoring reports to maintain peak performance.
- Support various teams with the installation, configuration, and support of departmental third-party applications.
- Proactively identifies opportunities for improvements to existing processes and for automation of time consuming tasks.
- General Windows Operating System and third-party application support.
- Periodic platform upgrades as needed, both on the OS and application tier.
- Install system patches and application updates as directed.
- Assist the management team with research in order to stay abreast of the latest developments in automation technologies.
- Assist the management team in determining the direction and enhancement of automation processes to meet the needs of the organization.
- Makes recommendations to ensure that adequate computing and storage capacity is available.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent work experience in IT is preferred.
- Experience in dealing with multiple business units and diverse employee population.
- Minimum 7 years of experience in information technology.
- Minimum 7-10 years of experience managing Windows Server infrastructure.
- Minimum of 4 years of experience managing MS SQL databases.
- Ability to conduct research into a wide range of computing issues as required.
- Ability to absorb and retain information quickly.
- Ability to present ideas in user-friendly language.

- Troubleshooting knowledge, utilizing packet sniffers, log parsers, and other utilities relative to problem diagnosis and remediation.
- Expert level using PowerShell and other scripting Languages.
- Design, Implement and troubleshoot automated solutions in a complex Windows environment using automation platforms.
- Expert knowledge of implementing automated solutions for server deployments
