IoT Applications Engineer - Arm Mbed at Arm (Austin, TX)

About the role

We are building a team of engineers to be mentors for the Mbed OS ecosystem. We help guide people who are new to Mbed OS, Mbed Cloud, or other areas of the Mbed ecosystem. In addition to helping people in response to their questions, we also put together example applications using newly (or nearly) released features. This often involves building prototypes of the target using dev kits and boards that we keep around for just such occasions. We write tutorials and blog posts. We help run workshops and meet-ups. In short, we are the extra engineering help that developers need to get their project out of the door. Are you an experienced applications engineer who loves to dig in to discover what makes a product work and who communicate what you learn to customers? If so, then you would be a dynamic addition to this collaborative team.

What will I be accountable for?

  • You will lead a project from definition to completion - your work will likely include building prototype examples around the different Mbed APIs and writing workshop material

  • You will tackle problems both in person or remotely (for example over email) as this team receives questions from many different channels

  • You will occasionally travel as the team is geographically distributed and you will visit other sites from time to time

  • You will coach the developer community on how best to use mbed, mbed cloud, and other Arm IoT features. Coaching will involve writing articles, assisting at workshops, and building examples.

  • You will respond clearly and competently to questions from our support channels. These questions can be about any aspects of embedded system development - from general programming questions to hardware recommendations.

  • The IoT space is based on open standards and open source. You will use your validated experience with open source process and tools.

What skills, experience, and qualifications do I need?

  • Bachelors (BS) or Masters (MS) in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering - although other degrees will be considered with relevant work experience

  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in embedded development

  • A deep understanding of C/C++ and a proficiency in a scripting language (i.e. Python, Bash, Ruby)

  • A low-level understanding of embedded development. For example, you will need to understand memory-mapped devices, and ISR handling

  • Excellent communication skills: writing well, speaking well, and listening well

At Arm, we are guided by our core beliefs that reflect our creative culture and guide our decisions, defining how we work together to defy ordinary and shape extraordinary. Here's a sampling:

  • We not I: No individual owns the right answer. Brilliance is collective

  • Passion for progress: The essence of progress is that it can’t stop. Grow with it and own your own progress

  • Be your brilliant self: Be quirky not egocentric
