Purpose of Job:
The Senior Enterprise Data Architect is responsible for the design and deployment, and provides oversight and coordination for, the operation of all enterprise data & analytics across Scotiabank. The incumbent supports the overall accountability for developing and implementing roadmaps, strategic and operational plans which align with the overall organization’s objectives.
The goal is to achieve benefits such as enterprise-wide interoperability with appropriate focus on enterprise scalability, risk mitigation and reuse of strategic data infrastructure & assets.
The incumbent is at the highest level of technical expertise for enterprise technologies.
The incumbent will research, plan, define and support enterprise data & analytics architecture in support of the director’s mandate. He/she will proactively work to progress the architecture, and overall design of the Bank’s Information Systems as a corporate asset in supporting the Bank’s business objectives. There will be a high degree of focus on the end to end architecture to ensure that customer’s needs are consistently. This includes ensuring technical directions and options take into account constraints and future enhancements in data & analytics systems, hardware, system software and development software. The incumbent will also ensure all components will interoperate and provide the architecture to support future strategic initiatives.
Major Accountabilities:
1. Lead the design and deployment of new enterprise data & analytics solutions
Ensure solutions improve operational efficiency, reduce operating risk and deliver quality service
Partner with solutions providers (e.g., Hadoop COE, BI COE, ETL COE and internal service delivery groups) to effectively develop and deploy solutions according to Scotiabank data & analytics architecture designs
Partner with various SME’s, architects and IS&C to ensure that new designs are in compliance with IT&S Enterprise Architecture and security standards
Provide solution and product innovation input into the Scotiabank IT Strategy
Ensure architecture and solutions align with enterprise data management strategy and objectives
Participate in project technology and/or audit reviews
2. Develop the technology roadmap and ensure that Scotiabank maximizes the value received from its data & analytics technology investments
Act as the departmental data & analytics technology expert. Play an active role in understanding industry trends and new technologies, and provide leadership in driving cost risk technologies reduction thru innovative technology solutions
Establish the long-term (3-5 years) technology vision and contribute to the development of the Bank’s reference architecture
Work with strategic suppliers / internal delivery organizations to ensure that Scotiabank benefits from leading industry practices and technologies
Assess technology currency and to develop improvement plans
Construct an industrial strength steady-state environment
Work with business line architects to maintain enterprise data asset portfolio
3. Manage day-to-day delivery of services from strategic partners and internal functional areas
Ensure consistent delivery of highly available and high quality computing services for Scotiabank
Key operations processes need to be managed to increasing levels of maturity and best practices.
Develop ways to report and manage services in a consistent fashion across the enterprise
Actively engage to resolve incidents and systemic service issues—”own” resolution of incidents and problems
Ensure that new data & analytics solutions are effectively implemented and operationally “ready”
Ensure reuse of technology assets to benefit the overall technology portfolio of the bank
4. Provide a single point of contact for service delivery and service change for common enterprise-level services.
Set appropriate expectations, including relevant performance targets in light of needs and expectations of the director
“Own” client issues—ensure that the client is aware of relevant service problems and work with the director to reach resolution
Prioritize and solve conflicts that will arise while looking at all the aggregated needs of Scotiabank
Communicate and manage the cost of enterprise services and value received to clients
Clearly communicate the vision and technology roadmap to various team and stakeholders
5. Establish and maintain standards for data & analytics and ensure alignment to Scotiabank strategic road maps
Act as a key contributor in the development and maintenance of the technical standards for data & analytics
Construct and maintain roadmaps for the deployment of enterprise technologies to achieve strategic objectives.
Education/Work Experience/Designations
15+ years of Technical Consulting experience, especially in Financial / Banking Sector.
Strong driver of new and emerging technologies
Proven leadership in technology architecture and roadmap development, as well as execution of major projects
Excellent skills in relationship and general business management
Highly skilled and knowledgeable in complex technology environments (e.g., data, analytics, modeling) and platforms (e.g. traditional RDMBS and Big Data) and formats
Strong IT technology experience in high-volume, complex, customer-oriented IT environment
Knowledge of industry data models and practical use experience
Strong knowledge of data and meta-data management practices
Good understanding of data services and complexity of a large global financial organization
Good understanding of banking business applications
An excellent communicator - both written and verbal
Innovative - Ability to see how future technologies can be applied to help drive business objectives
Ability to influence and collaborate with teams of senior technical professionals
Strategic thinking - Understands long term business strategies and can create data & analytics technology strategies aligned to them
Change Leadership - Able to lead major organization change programs
Results - Project champion, able to lead at the executive level major data & analytics projects
