Our Tech department builds and drives our own customer-facing applications and internal services on top of Zalando’s platform services. We have a strong focus on customer experience and learn and experiment how we can engage them even more. Being a member of a tech department, consisting of about 60 engineers, UX designers, and product managers, this position will allow you to directly impact the business mission of Zalando Lounge.
As a Site Reliability Engineer, you will work on solutions that help maintain Zalando Lounge's infrastructure and platform in its peak form. We expect you to challenge our status quo and suggest, deliver improvements in both technology and processes and support the other technology teams in the department in regards to site reliability best practices.
PURPOSE
Site Reliability Engineers help sustain Zalando Lounge’s rapid-growth by keeping the platform running at all times on a large scale.
YOUR IMPACT
Working behind the scenes, you are responsible for enabling millions of visits per day by maintaining and scaling our platform infrastructure while keeping our core, revenue-critical services and applications fast, stable, reliable and available.
- Design, develop and deliver infrastructure software for the cloud
- Solve problems arising from our large-scale operations and ensure that the same mistake/error doesn’t happen twice, whilst constantly thinking of how to automate yourself out of boring operational tasks
- Work closely with software engineers and other SREs in dedicated engineering groups to influence and create new designs, architectures, and standards
- Participate and drive production readiness reviews and postmortems
- Coach other engineers with workshops and trainings about service levels, reliability patterns, and SRE methodology
- Engage in service capacity planning and demand forecasting, software performance analysis and system-tuning
- Participate in on-call rotation duties
YOU ARE SKILLS
A Site Reliability Engineer is a software engineer. Additionally, you have knowledge about system-level aspects and networking.
- Knowledge in Software Engineering - Computer Science fundamentals (algorithms and data structures)
- Proficiency in at Python and experience in at least one additional language eg Java, Scala, Golang or javascript
- Systems Engineering - large-scale system design exposure, in-depth understanding of UNIX/Linux systems internals, TCP/IP networking
- Cloud Engineering - Strong experience with AWS and/or Kubernetes, solid understanding of security practices
- Software Architecture - Strong understanding of synchronous/asynchronous microservice & data architectures
- Excellent troubleshooting and analytical skills
- Working experience with automation tools like Ansible
- Experience with Kubernetes deployment and management
- Hands on experience with physical and virtual Linux servers, preferably Ubuntu
