DevOps / Site Reliability Engineer (m/f) for FinReach at FinReach GmbH (Berlin, Germany)

FinReach sits at the heart of all convergent technologies trends (SaaS, APIs, microservices, etc.), and our developers are tackling some of the most challenging problems in technology today.


As a DevOps / Site Reliability engineer at FinReach, you will be constantly presented with new challenges with an enormous scope and endless variety. On any given day, you might be troubleshooting a performance degradation for one of our critical SaaS products, writing automation code to help a broken application automatically recover, designing the system architecture for a new platform service, implementing new monitoring logic, or any of a million other things. 


We’re looking for technology generalists with a strong bias to action, excellent analytical skills, and a taste for good engineering. 



What you'll achieve:


3 months:



  • Become comfortable with FinReach tools and processes by partnering with a member of your team to ramp up effectively

  • Start handling simple change requests and understand our monitoring systems in dept

  • Start projects, such as reviewing one or more applications pipeline service end to end and improving it, moving improvement all the way to production


6 months:



  • Develop infrastructure automation tools to eliminate manual effort, and to detect and resolve potential problems before they degrade

  • Be the subject matter expert for your domain, working in tight cooperation with the relevant software team(s)

  • Provide operational support for software deployments and production incident response.





What you'll need to be successful:



  • A strong background in Linux systems, including shell scripting and performance tuning

  • Excellent understanding of Internet technologies and protocols (TCP/IP, DNS, HTTP, SSL, etc.)

  • Coding skills in Python or another interpreted language like perl or ruby

  • Knowledge about the deployment and maintenance of Java web applications

  • A strong sense of ownership of the work you do and believe in doing things the right way for the right reasons

  • Experience using a configuration management tool like Ansible, Puppet or Chef

  • Familiarity with general monitoring principles, as well as tools like Zabbix, Nagios, New Relic, Stackdriver, Pingdom, etc. Preferably knowledge of AWS

  • Proven track record of solving problems creatively - Natural curiosity, ability and desire to learn quickly

About us:


Our technical stack consists of several services which are written in Java, Ruby, Python and Clojure. They communicate via HTTP and data is stored in MongoDB, MySQL, and Elasticsearch. Our frontends are based on React.js and Angular.js. The services are running in Docker containers in a private data center for high security. Deployments are orchestrated with Ansible and Rundeck, and we are looking forward to moving to Kubernetes. We use GitHub for source control and Travis CI for continuous integration. The development process is in Scrum-based with 2-weeks sprints.
