Senior Software Engineer - Full Stack Java at Trumpet, Inc. (Phoenix, AZ)

Have you ever had an "ah-ha" moment when you realized that a piece of technology could make your life better or help you get things done faster?  Did you show friends or family about this cool new thing and relish their excitement?  How would you like to be part of a team creating that sort of innovation?  At Trumpet, we create technology for small and medium sized businesses that people can’t help but "trumpet" about.  As part of the Trumpet team, your opinion not only counts, but is expected. You will work closely with a talented and skilled team that is passionate about liberating people from unfulfilling work tasks.  If that sounds like the kind of environment where you would thrive, keep reading!

  • Is passionate about the art and science of software development

  • Loves figuring out systems and understanding the nuts and bolts of a problem

  • Loves delivering solid, elegant code quickly (spin a quick build? No problem!)

  • Hates regression bugs, and understands the value of unit testing and paying down technical debt

  • Enjoys working with others, yet loves jumping into complex code and figuring things out without guidance

  • Took the time to understand HTTP, even though they normally use higher-level libraries

  • Works hard so they can be lazy

Our next Senior Software Engineer has to have:

  • 4+ years of experience with complex application development

  • Deep development experience with Java and REST APIs

  • Work experience with Maven, SVN

  • Familiarity with agile development philosophies

  • Ability to prioritize and balance multiple tasks and deliver results quickly

What you'll be working on:

You will initially be working on a complex, hosted, multi-tenant product that we are preparing to launch in Q2 2018.  This application uses a Java back-end, MongoDB datastore, JAX-RS REST communication to an Angular 5 front-end, as well as dynamic, scalable back-end processors (written primarily in Java, but also some C++).  Performance, authentication and data security are key requirements.

In addition, you will be expected to make impactful enhancements to Trumpet’s other product lines, and be involved with scoping and architecting our next product when the time comes.

We want to emphasize that our product lines are commercial applications, so experience with actual product development is highly desirable.

As the Senior Software Engineer, you will:

 Innovate

  • Own the lead development role for the Java back-end of this product

  • Bring new products (and enhancements to existing products) to market

  • Develop usable functionality as quickly as possible

  • Rapidly iterate based on user feedback

 Maintain

  • Help the Customer Success and IT teams with support items that require developer involvement

  • Improve the software to prevent customer support issues

 Improve

  • Continuously improve our internal software development process

  • Evaluate enhancement ideas

  • Educate your internal team on product features and enhancements

Your first three months

  • Within 30 days, you will fully understand Trumpet's build and release systems/processes and begin contributing to our new product’s Java back-end (with guidance).

  • Within 60 days, you will take ownership of at least one key area of the new product and make rapid progress towards delivery of enhancements in that/those areas.

  • Within 90 days, you will take ownership of the bulk of the new product back-end architecture and development direction, as well as be an active participant in product team discussions and decisions.

What's in it for you?

Beyond working with an amazing group of people who share your work ethic and desire to create something awesome, we provide:

  • Competitive salary plus quarterly bonuses

  • Group medical insurance, retirement plan with employer match, paid holidays, continuing education benefit, open vacation policy and quarterly team fun days
