Overview


As the Lead Product Designer at Orange Barrel Media, you will be responsible for the user experience on IKE Smart City (http://bit.ly/2BhlNxi), an innovative new platform that helps cities to serve its residents and visitors. IKE connects cities with people through vivid, life-size touchscreen displays, providing an ever-expanding suite of applications that helps them to explore the very best a city has to offer. Your work will be used by tens of thousands of pedestrians every day, helping them to discover and navigate cities, including food, shopping, events, and social services. It will also allow them to share feedback with cities and stay informed about important events.


You will have a unique opportunity to define a new medium that borrows from tried and true desktop and mobile design standards while considering the unique aspects of a life-size display in the heart of urban centers. What You'll Do


As the Lead Product Designer you will:



  • Lead a collaborative design process from conception to launch involving product owners, engineers, user researchers, and other designers

  • Be responsible for visually designing an outstanding user interface for the IKE Smart City platform kiosk, CMS, and mobile experience that maintains product integrity while balancing the specific needs of multiple cities

  • Ensure that the IKE kiosk provides an outstanding experience for a broad set of users, considering accessibility, internationalization, and other factors

  • Apply user-centered design methodologies to ensure ideas are accessible and based on customer needs

  • Validate your designs through A/B testing, working with product management and user research

  • Turn your designs into reality by implementing them using modern HTML and CSS techniques

  • Develop IKE user interface standards and create tooling and process to make it easy for our development team to follow them

  • Support the team by creating sketches, wireframes, prototypes, etc.

  • Stay on top of the latest technology trends and industry design standards to ensure the product is remaining engaging and relevant

  • Play an instrumental role in defining how Orange Barrel Media does software development



About You


You may be a developer who has a talent and passion for UX. Or you may be a designer who has learned to code to express yourself in the form of beautiful web applications. We’re less concerned about how you got there and more with where you’ve arrived.



  • You have a demonstrated history designing and implementing web and mobile user interfaces that are functional, elegant, engaging, fun, and easy to use

  • You are passionate about user experience, focused on allowing people to seamlessly and intuitively engage with technology

  • You are able to adapt the user experience based on an innate understanding for strengths and weaknesses of different media

  • You have strong visual design skills, and are proficient with industry standard design tools

  • You can bring your designs to life using HTML and CSS, and you’re comfortable working alongside other frontend web technologies such as ES6, Webpack, and React.

  • You have a passion for building new things, processes, and culture

  • You're a clear and articulate communicator, and are comfortable and confident explaining your design decisions. 

  • You thrive in a dynamic, customer-driven environment
