As a member of the Video Acquisition and Compression Technology team, you are instrumental in delivering cutting edge video distribution technology.  You will be provided with an opportunity to work with the top video and network technology vendors in the world as Comcast focuses on being the 1st in the industry to deliver the latest and greatest experience to our customers.  To ensure that you have the tools to do your job effectively, we make sure that you have full access to the latest and greatest tools and test equipment in our state of the art facility.

We are looking for an outstanding Video Engineer within the VACT organization that will work closely with the Video Engineering team that is responsible for creating new approaches for Video and Audio products for Linear and On-Demand. Initiatives range from short term product implementation to defining long term video acquisition, compression and distribution strategy for Comcast. Initiatives include automating processes for Video Quality analysis, requirements creation for H.264/HEVC and future Encoding platforms, multi-channel audio development for next generation A/V media, advanced video applications like 4K, HDR, and tools creation for advanced troubleshooting and video quality analytics.  We are a team that thrives on big challenges, results, quality, and agility.

Who does the Video Engineer work with?

An Engineer on the Video Design Strategy and Support team will support multiple video acquisition, compression and distribution platforms for Comcast and multiple commercial customers. This person will also work closely with the variety of on-site vendors that have a technical presence in our facilities. This engineer will be integral to the VACT organization; working closely, with our Video Architecture Team and our Video Systems Engineering and Control Team, as well as the entire Comcast organization and many of our commercial customers.

What are some interesting problems you will be working on?

In this role, you will have exposure to any and all issues that can arise within the Video Acquisition and Compression Technology team. You will be responsible for continuously developing our strategy, to ensure we are delivering the best customer experience in the industry! As we develop next generation platforms to acquire, encode and distribute video, this leader will be responsible for professional and technical development to be able to support the cutting edge architecture.  Focus will also include defining, developing and managing tools and operational environments to aid in supporting video platforms.

You will be responsible for assisting in the design of system architectures and solutions for innovative solutions for complex MPEG, video, and data system design, installation/integration, and complex problem resolution.  Exercises expert-level Video/Distribution engineering skills and methodology.  Directs and develops long-term objectives and plans related to the company’s technical vision.  Acts as a key contributor in a complex and crucial environment.  Acts as a Subject Matter Expert and acts as a cross-functional liaison.

  • Recommends and Develops state-of-the art solutions to maximize technology and business applications.

  • Recommends courses of action, technology, technical solutions, long term vision and vision of what needs to happen to grow the company.
  • Recommends progressive A/V solutions that utilize innovation to solve complex development problems.
  • Candidate will leverage leadership and deep system-level skills to work independently.
  • Reports on the progress of all technical projects towards the company's video engineering goals and strategies.
  • Design and develop internal tools to improve A/V syntax and video quality validation processes
  • Work with our vendors to drive new and innovative solutions into their products for Comcast and the industry.

  • Regular, consistent and punctual attendance. Must be able to work variable schedule as necessary.

 Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree and 5+ year's relevant experience
  • Understanding of Linux and Windows OS server platforms.
  • Experience with IP multicast, Apple HLS, Adobe HDS, and Windows HSS.
  • Understanding of IT work experience in systems administration.
  • Possesses the ability to rapidly grasp new technologies and abstractions and apply them in a meaningful way.
  • Good communicator, able to analyze and clearly articulate complex issues and technologies understandably and engagingly.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem solving skills, adaptable, proactive and willing to take ownership.
  • Ability to think strategically, forecasting technological advances 1 – 3 years out.
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Perl Scripting preferred
  • Multicast experience required.
  • Comfortable working a fast paced agile environment.

We are a cloud-based, IP video infrastructure that’s been built to deliver a broad mix of on-demand video, live TV streams and an assortment of other digital media to an array of connected devices in the home.
