Assistant Director, EVC Administrative Technology

Under direction of the EVC ATS Technology Director, the Assistant Director, EVC Administrative Technology Services as a key member of the management team and is responsible for implementing the technological vision of the team. The Assistant Director provides technology leadership, advocacy, and management of Administrative Technology Services systems infrastructure, helpdesk, and application development for the fulfillment of strategic and operational goals.
The Assistant Director oversees management of systems, helpdesk, network and hardware; develops and executes short and long term strategies & planning for operations and policy making; creates innovative, cost-effective solutions for complex problems to streamline business processes that have organizational impact.
The Assistant Director leads, directs, and coordinates the Application Development and Web/Cloud Services unit of Administrative Technology Services (ATS) in the design, development, implementation, configuration, maintenance, delivery, and documentation of UC San Diego Library software development and web support. In addition, the manager provides leadership and assistance concerning various other Library software systems and web services such as the intranet, public web presence, business systems, Integrated Library System, and campus CMS integration.
QUALIFICATIONS
• In-depth knowledge of various areas of IT. Broad knowledge of the IT environment. Has solid knowledge of information systems function.
• Knowledge necessary to design, set up, operate and correct malfunctions involving technology systems. Demonstrated extensive knowledge of computer systems analysis methods and current techniques for troubleshooting applications and systems problems. Experience with general and systems level debugging methods.
• Advanced knowledge of computer security tools, best practices and policies including demonstrated experience securing server-based software.
• Has solid interpersonal and management skills. Demonstrated skill in managing technical staff. Critical thinking, persuasion / negotiation, conflict resolution, mentoring and staff development, leadership / management, problem solving, human resources policies and procedures relating to management responsibilities.
• Requires solid ability to communicate highly technical information in a clear and concise manner to both technical and nontechnical personnel. Demonstrated ability to develop rapport with key personnel, management, and staff in inter-departmental and community collaborative efforts. Ability to demonstrate tact, sensitivity, and diplomacy when representing IT Department in a socio-political environment. Demonstrated strong customer service values.
• Demonstrated advanced system integration/problem analysis skills. Demonstrated expert knowledge on computer systems design with comprehensive understanding of the integration of systems (hardware, software, and networks) and the ability to implement/integrate systems in an innovative manner, particularly applications which include the integration of directory and relational database services into web based applications, and applications which integrate information systems from different vendors into a unified user interface.
• Demonstrated communication/interpersonal skills to listen and ask relevant questions to gain a thorough understanding of the problem to be solved, and to communicate solutions with individuals and groups.
• Proven experience functioning successfully within a collaborative team environment in a complex organization with ability to establish effective working relationships among a diverse constituency to define and achieve mutual goals and objectives.
• Strong budgetary management skills to analyze financial data, make cost projections, coordinate IT contract negotiations and establish hardware and software upgrade priorities.
• Demonstrated experience with agile project management including leading project teams.

• Duties may require direct contact and/or supervision of children (defined as individuals under the age of 18) ; completion of the Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act (CANRA) form will be required.
