Are you looking for a challenging role in front end development? The Molecular Networks Team at the European Bioinformatics Institute (EMBL-EBI) is looking for an experienced software engineer to contribute to the Omics Discovery Index project (http://bit.ly/2J2vlh6). The Omics Discovery Index integrates metadata from currently 16 databases from four continents, making the data discoverable under a common data model. The position will contribute to the implementation of user-facing features, enhancing interactivity and visualisation.

The post holder will work in a global, team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with developers, bioinformaticians and scientists across EMBL-EBI and with external partners both in the UK and internationally. EMBL-EBI is a world-leading bioinformatics centre providing biological data to the scientific community with expertise in data storage, analysis and representation.


Qualifications and Experience


You should have a degree in software engineering or a related field, or a proven bioinformatics track record, as well as three years experience in user facing development.


 Extensive knowledge of the following technologies will be expected:



Java, Javascript (jQuery, Angular, ReactJS), CSS;
Solr, Lucene, related indexing strategies;
Unix/Linux command line skills, shell scripting and common command-line tools;
Git, issue tracking software (JIRA), Agile processes;
Testing and deployment of robust web applications.

Understanding of life science data resources will be a strong plus.


 You will work in a highly international, team-oriented environment and collaborate closely with developers, bioinformaticians, and scientists across EMBL-EBI and with external partners. Excellent communication skills are required.
