The Challenge

As a principal software engineer on the Strategic Platform Acceleration and Cloud Engineering (SPACE) team, you will drive the design and implementation of our cloud management and automation platform.

The SPACE team is a small and fast-moving group of world-class experts who are innovating in delivering software-defined infrastructure services and platforms. We provide our customers with everything they need to be successful in their cloud journey, from self-service cloud onboarding to software-defined network and security capabilities to cost and resource optimization in multiple cloud environments. SPACE engineers are closely aligned with cloud architects and product teams to ensure our products and services consistently meet customer demands. We are a team that thrives on big challenges, results, quality and agility.

You'll be working with the best and brightest minds in Comcast to help build and deploy a cloud management platform that spans public and private cloud infrastructure. You'll drive technical decision making and implementation in how the platform integrates with cloud APIs to provision cloud accounts, manage infrastructure and network resources within and across those accounts and ensure that cloud consumption is secure, economical and easy to manage.

The Task

* Design, develop, test, debug and document new and existing software components in our cloud management platform

* Ensure the platform architecture and design is adaptable to both changing business requirements and cloud provider capabilities

* Mentor colleagues on effective and secure public cloud automation patterns

* Write technical specifications based on conceptual design and business requirements

* Evaluate new and emerging technologies for implementation

* Quickly prototype proposed ideas to determine suitability and illustrate your concepts with working code

* Drive technical implementation and infrastructure standards within the team through design and code reviews

* Strong technical expertise and troubleshooting skills for large scale enterprise systems and software

Qualifications

* MS in Computer Science or similar degree with significant equivalent industry experience

* Extensive experience designing, building, deploying and operating software products that present practical and understandable solutions to complex problems

* Demonstrated ability to conceive, manage and complete software deliverables

* Experience working in large single and hybrid cloud infrastructure landscapes

* Competent and confident working with Golang, Docker, Kubernetes and Linux

* Broad understanding of IP networking, network security patterns and traffic scaling

* Experience with agile development methodologies, rapid application development, and project management

* Demonstrated leadership skills in a fast-paced, team-driven environment

* Strong verbal and written communication skills, including visual presentation skills

* Demonstrated experience in research data collection, analysis, and presentation

* Ability to work effectively across internal and external organizations

* Ability to travel when needed; expected travel is 5-25%

* At least 15 years experience in a software engineering role

Preferred Qualifications

* Significant experience designing, automating and securing cloud infrastructure on platforms like AWS, OpenStack, Azure, Google Cloud

* Expert at server-side application development using languages like Golang, C/C++/C#, or Java

* Expert at scripting and/or server-side development using languages like Ruby, Python or Node.js

* Deeply familiar with common web application development patterns and technologies including JavaScript/CSS/HTML, Angular, Typescript, Single Page Apps

* Proficient with RESTful services and data interchange using XML, JSON, Protobuf or MessagePack

* Experience creating and managing projects in revision control, including git and Github

* Experience with large-scale distributed infrastructures, including technologies for clustering and load balancing

* Understanding of Service-Oriented Architectures (SOA and REST), Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) and Platform as a Service (PaaS)

* Experience implementing continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) tools and systems

* Experience with Docker and Kubernetes

* Deep understanding of HTTP, TCP, DNS, UDP, IPv4/IPv6 networking and protocols

* Experience with Agile, including Scrum and/or Kanban

* Understanding of how DevOps culture influences software development and operations practices and delivery techniques

* Ability and desire to mentor peers both within and outside your team

Strategic Platform Acceleration and Cloud Engineering (SPACE) was assembled from cloud technologists employed across Comcast's Technology.Product.Xperience (TPX) Division. SPACE is based in Denver, Colorado, with remote contributors in greater Los Angeles, Northern Virginia, and Philadelphia.
