The Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL), a national leader in scientific research and development, located midway between Baltimore and Washington, DC., an Ocean Systems Software Engineer

Job Summary: The Ocean Systems and Engineering Group (KMT) is a multi-disciplinary engineering group with a focus on designing, developing, building, and testing prototype sensor systems for our nations submarine fleet. KMT provides critical contributions to some of the Navys greatest challenges today. We are looking for an energetic and creative software engineer to support cutting edge research and development projects involving submarine systems, real-time data acquisition, command and control, and unmanned vehicle platforms. You will participate in a team environment to design, develop, test, evaluate, and demonstrate prototype systems in the lab and the field. .

Duties:
1. Perform software engineering for both submarine and unmanned vehicle systems, to include requirements development, object oriented design, agile software development, laboratory testing, and field testing. (60%)
2. Install and configure mission-critical shipboard systems. This includes unique opportunities to ride US Navy Ships in support of system sea trials and crew training. (20%)
3. Propose and develop innovative ways to apply cutting-edge technology to extend the capabilities and performance of existing systems. (10%)
4. Document software development activities and test results. Prepare for and conduct periodic design reviews. Prepare technical reports and other briefing materials for presentation to peers, upper management, external partners, working groups, sponsors, and professional conferences. (10%)
