Right now, we’re powering a whole country, finding ways to prevent malaria, making cities smarter, developing renewable energy, designing 3D robots, transporting people at 250 mph and helping NASA explore Mars. Our experience has shown that the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT) and Distributed Computing are key technologies extremely relevant for such innovations. To strengthen our activities, we are seeking a IoT/Distributed Computing Researcher to be part of our US Distributed Computing Research Group of the Internet of Things Technology Field in Princeton, NJ.

This Technology Field consists of 15 Research Groups in 5 countries (US, Germany, Austria, China and India). We provide distributed/edge computing solutions (smart edge, smart devices) addressing the needs of Industrial IoT (IIoT) applications, from in-field data analytics, distributed machine intelligence, local control, cloud computing to autonomous systems.

Responsibilities 

  • Identifying, validating, and integrating cutting edge distributed computing technologies into Siemens IT/OT platforms

  • Contribute as Researcher to IoT-related projects with Siemens Business Units

  • Advance the state-of-the-art in the field, including generating patents and publications, presentation of results at conferences and within Siemens

  • Establishing and maintaining collaboration with Academia, Startups and Siemens experts

  • Supporting grant writing process by contributions to proposals

  • Apply research results to real-world applications and presentation of results to non-technical audiences

  • Working with Siemens Business Units to understand their problems and demands for Distributed Computing technologies


  • Required Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience

  • PhD in computer science or engineering is required

  • 3+ years of professional experience in software engineering or research (including PhD)

  • Hands on coding and scripting experience in languages as C++ and/or Python, Java, JavaScript or similar, demonstrated by research prototypes or open source contributions

  • Hands-on experience with either peer-to-peer technologies, distributed computing or cloud computing

  • Recent research contributions in the field of distributed computing, demonstrated by publications at conferences and/or journals are required

  • Willingness to travel 10% (domestic/international) is required

  • Willingness to work with business stakeholders and develop understanding of complex business models and industry practices

  • Successful candidate must be able to work with controlled technology in accordance with US Export Control Law.
