We are looking for a strong, motivated and experienced “all around” system administrator to join our team and to take charge of the company’s IT infrastructure. What will your day look like?
- Working on projects to improve our infrastructure. This could include:
- Establishing new procedures (e.g. deploying new workstations).
- Improving reliability of our network (e.g. configuring fail-over switches).
- Improving high-availability of selected applications (e.g. SQL and Exchange clustering).
- Brain storming new disaster scenarios and testing procedures.
- Creating scripts (with PowerShell) to automate tasks.
- Providing support to end users and (if required) our customers.
- Writing and updating department documentation.
- Provisioning equipment (workstations, servers, etc).
- Auditing the infrastructure to make sure conventions and best practices are followed.
Here is a quick glimpse of our infrastructure:
- We are a Microsoft shop. We utilize Exchange and MS SQL servers on premise.
- We’ve built our own “mini cloud” with VMware and IBM blades.
- We have 100+ hosts and 200+ mobile devices.
- We operate over 3 facilities (all within 15 km of each other) in Mississauga. We’re hungry to grow nationally so we may see facilities in Montreal, Calgary and possibly United States.
Our company services various facets of the transportation and logistics industry. We provide ground cargo transportation, driver training, logistic services, container storage depot and more. Do you see trucks on the road with the massive containers being hauled? That’s what we do!
Responsibilities:
- Ensure all data and applications (where required) are backed up.
- Develop, update, improve and verify disaster recovery scenarios and procedures.
- Ensuring high-availability of the IT infrastructure, application services, etc. Includes making improvements to achieve high-availability.
- Providing support (and training, when required) to end users and customers (when required).
- Reducing the risk of security breaches by introducing and following security best-practices (e.g. applying updates to hosts, utilizing ACL, reducing attack vectors, etc).
- Responding to infrastructure interruptions and providing end user support outside regular working hours. (On Call - Schedule driven).
- Maintaining inventory of all company devices and application licenses.
- Maintaining documentation of the infrastructure, disaster recovery plans, procedures and other elements of the department.
- Provision equipment and changes to the infrastructure including workstations, servers, network equipment, applications, etc.
- Any other reasonable activity required by management/leadership.
Requirements:
Must Have:
- Strong in managing a Windows IT environment with 300+ devices.
- Strong in PowerShell, extensive experience automating with PowerShell.
- Experience managing Exchange.
- Experience managing MS SQL Server.
- Experience writing and managing documentation.
- Must be detail orientated and thorough - cannot be sloppy.
- Must be well organized.
- Competent writing skills.
- Must work on site - remote is not available.
Nice to Have:
- Experience in clustering (SQL, Exchange, etc).
- Experience working in a VMware environment.
- Experience with Cisco networking equipment.
- Experience with IBM blades and SAN equipment.
- Experience with PDQ Inventory and PDQ Deploy.
- Experience with EDI and/or Microsoft BizTalk.
- A university or college degree in a computer related program.
- Good understanding of IT security best practices.
- Good understanding of IT best practices.
- Good understanding of networking concepts.
- Certifications in various technical/project management skills (Microsoft, Cisco, PMP, VMware, etc).
- Good understanding of Six Sigma.
