Infrastructure Engineer at Cumulus Digital Systems, Inc. (Cambridge, MA)

An infrastructure engineer at Cumulus will be responsible for the operations of our secure and highly available cloud computing platforms, servers and networks. This individual will build, maintain, upgrade, and continuously improve the operating environment, employing industry best practices; This includes monitoring the operating environments, responding to incidents, problems and planning for growth.


Responsibilities



  • Maintain, monitor, and support the infrastructure environment:

    • Develop enhanced production monitoring and health check

    • Ensure backup and maintenance availability requirements are met

    • Communicates events to all stakeholders



  • Design and develop new solutions for the infrastructure environment:

    • Develop new alerts and monitoring techniques based on engineering requirements

    • Develop scripted solutions and automation



  • Monitor and communicate system performance:

    • Monitor system-operating capacity in terms of (e.g., load, capacity and CPU utilization)

    • Monitor database performance and recommends changes

    • Perform capacity workload modeling and availability analysis for a variety of platforms and environments

    • Recommend changes/enhancements for improved systems availability, reliability, and performance

    • Determine the required course of action to improve performance and escalates when appropriate



  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives by identifying ways tasks can be automated

  • Provides production support

    • Seeks technical assistance or escalates problem, when necessary

    • Documents, monitors, reports, and manages the resolution of systemic issues

    • Works with Engineers, Vendors, and Architects when issues appear systemic or cannot be resolved

    • Recommends procedures and controls for problem resolution or creates temporary solutions until permanent solutions can be implemented



  • Ensures security requirements are met:

    • Reports security issues when appropriate and gathers required information

    • Analyzes audit trails to detect systematic security violations

    • Makes recommendations to improve security and participates in investigations as needed

    • Ensures adherence to security requirements



  • Ensure compliance with policies, procedures and standards:

    • Monitor production, outputs, and services to ensure that SLAs, and other quality metrics, are being met




Professional Qualifications



  • S. Degree in relevant field, like Computer Science, Information Systems, etc.

  • 5+ years of relevant professional experience in Infrastructure Engineering, Systems Administration, DevOps, IT, etc.

  • Experience with AWS environment and or similar cloud platforms (IAAS)

  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Power Shell, Go, Bash, Python, etc.

  • Strong knowledge of networking, protocols and debugging

  • Experience in software product build, versioning, release and deployment management

  • Expertise in automation and continuous integration tools (Jenkins, Chef, Ansible, Puppet, etc.)

  • Knowledge of best practices and operations to support an always-up, always-available service

  • Experience remotely supporting “off-line first” devices strongly preferred
