Description
ConocoPhillips has an opening for a Research Geophysicist in their Houston, TX location. The candidate will be part of a team responsible for developing a broad range of seismic processing solutions for both land and marine data to support exploration and production business units. The candidate is expected to interact with seismic processors and business units to identify high value technology development projects, to stay abreast of the latest industry technical developments, and to share responsibility for transfer of development technology into business applications.
This research geophysicist will be part of a research and development team addressing the latest technologies in seismic processing and prestack depth imaging.
Responsibilities May Include
  • Develop innovative technologies in the fields of signal processing, depth imaging and velocity model-building
  • Implement research ideas as practicable software, conduct studies to validate the method using synthetic and real data, and deploy the technology to production processing
  • Optimize production software/workflow to improve user-friendliness, quality, and efficiency
  • Provide technical support to seismic processing personnel and internal clients
  • Report/present technical results internally and promote successful workflows and technologies
Basic/Required
  • Legally authorized to work in the United States
  • Masters degree or higher in Geophysics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Mathematics, Physics or related discipline
  • 3+ years of experience developing wave equation modeling, seismic imaging or full waveform inversion
  • Advanced level of proficiency with programming (Java/C/C++/FORTRAN)
Preferred
  • Ph.D. in geophysics
  • Land processing R&D experience
  • Strong Signal processing background
  • Knowledge of data analytics/machine learning/high-performance computation
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities
  • Good communication skills and team player able to work closely with seismic processors
  • Delivers results through realistic planning to accomplish goals
  • Generates effective solutions based on available information and makes timely decisions that are safe and ethical
  • Listens actively and invites dialogue for shared understanding, then influences and acts to drive performance and achieve results
  • Builds strong relationships based on trust and seeks collaboration across organizational boundaries to achieve goals
