Job summary


The Red Hat Software Engineering team is looking for a Senior Software Applications Engineer to join us in Raleigh, NC. In this role, you will work on an innovative IT Enterprise Services team focused on developing and ensuring adoption of domain-centric HTTP APIs. You'll collaborate with both local and remote team members to document, design, develop, test, release, and maintain enterprise integration solutions. As a Senior Software Applications Engineer, you will contribute to the team's capabilities by demonstrating technical competence, personal initiative, creativity, desire to learn, transparency, and ability to work as part of a team.



Primary job responsibilities 

  • Design, develop, document, test, and maintain message-based middleware and HTTP services for internal and external customers, both in the cloud and in dedicated datacenters
  • Work closely with domain experts to analyze and implement business requirements
  • Design database schemas, access patterns, and indexes within transaction and performance constraints
  • Understand virtual machine and container infrastructure requirements
  • Research and contribute to open source technologies


Required skills

  • Bachelors or masters degree in computer science, engineering, or other closely related field

5-8 years of experience with the following:

  • Performing object-oriented analysis and design
  • Implementing design patterns in languages like Java
  • Writing automated unit and integration tests
  • Administering Linux systems
  • Using Oracle, MySQL (or Maria), and Mongo
  • Developing applications while working in an agile development environment
  • Distributed source control tools like Git or Mercurial
  • Implementing integration design patterns


Experience with the following is considered a plus:

  • Red Hat Fuse and Red Hat AMQ
  • Working on open source projects
  • Swagger
  • Spring Boot
  • Red Hat OpenShift
  • NoSQL databases like MongoDB
