As a core member of the Jacobs School of Engineering Dean's Office, the incumbent uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of industry practices and organizational policies and procedures to provide high-level data analytic support and project management in a broad scope of areas (e.g., Business Resource Management, Physical Resources, Student Enrollment, Capital Management, etc.) for the division of Jacobs School of Engineering.
Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires an evaluation of identifiable factors. Incumbent will research, compile, and analyze financial and statistical data to provide senior leadership, including the Dean, Executive Assistant Dean and Associate Deans with critical, and at times sensitive information, recommendations and assessment of programmatic needs, that will help to formulate executive decisions, division-wide goals and short and long term strategies, impacting the entire School of Engineering, VC and University.
The incumbent resolves a wide range of issues in imaginative as well as practical ways. Works on problems of diverse scope where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Responsible for developing and maintaining databases, statistical data reporting and surveys to facilitate strategic planning efforts.
Involves activities associated with supporting strategic planning and decision making through the analysis, presentation, and distribution of institutional related research data. Includes planning and analytical studies, assessment and reporting on data related to students, academic and non-academic employees, financial, and facilities. May be involved with compliance with informational requests from external agencies.
The position requires the integration of various sources of campus data, collaborating with data administrators, IT managers and analysts. Identify and develop additional databases, applications and web interfaces for staff data queries. Provide surveys, statistical data and ad hoc reports to analyze trends and develop plans for future growth based on data reports. Create new and improve existing databases and participate in campus-wide efforts to coordinate databases across divisions and VC areas.
Develop queries of the data warehouse and other campus databases and reports using tools. Must be well versed in using tools such as Tableau, IBM Cognos, SQL Server Reporting Services, Access, and others, for the purpose of presenting customers with a consistent, useful, and accurate view of their data along with insight in how it can be understood and used to improve student programs, academic decisions and business functions.
Researches, gathers, analyzes and summarizes information for complex data research projects. Research and investigate data query tools and applications that support the business goals of the Division. Provide recommendations to the Dean and Executive Assistant Dean via complex analyses and written reports regarding business case analyses for emergent or existing collaborations, synergies, and efforts that encourage access and the sharing of information and tools.
In support of developing collaborations among campus-wide departments and units, work collaboratively with a variety of constituents across campus to include research and reporting on developing programs, services and activities that support and serve academic business administration. Reporting to the Executive Assistant Dean, work closely on a variety of analytical issues and initiatives of importance to the Dean and Associate Deans that are in support of the campus and Division's strategic plan.

Requires general knowledge in data collection and analysis techniques; statistics or social science research techniques; knowledge of common organization-specific computer application programs; knowledge of organizational principles and procedures involved in handling sensitive data (for example, Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act, or FERPA).

Thorough active listening, critical thinking, good interpersonal skills and ability to multitask. Exceptional communication (oral and written) and organizational skills.

Proven ability to present information in a clear concise manner verbally and in writing. Skill in writing procedures, guidelines and application documentation. Understanding of organizational rules and regulations.

Substantial experience developing and maintaining database systems using appropriate software applications in order to conduct data analytics, e.g, perform statistical sampling, data mining, statistical analyses, correlational studies, etc. and provide summarization of data report and make recommendations.

Adept in using tools like Tableau, IBM Cognos, SQL and others, for the purpose of presenting customers with a consistent, useful, and accurate view of their data along with insight in how it can be understood and used to improve business functions. Ability to use the campus Data Warehouse.

Proven experience in reviewing data and reports pertaining to resource management and decision analysis and conveying information in a useful manner to determine areas of improvement.

Demonstrated experience in project management/planning and team facilitation. Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities with competing and changing deadlines.

Demonstrated experience in using Google sheets and Excel. Demonstrated ability to design and generate reports using spreadsheets, pivot tables and statistical tools.

Strong ability to download, merge, manipulate, analyze and report on large amounts of complex data from various campus and departmental sources.

Skill in statistical and mathematical operations. Proven advanced knowledge of relational database management.

Knowledge of financial, admissions, enrollment, academic personnel, human resources, space and contracts and grant awards data.

Able to provide good judgment, decision-making, and problem solving. Ability to take direction from more than one person and coordinate many simultaneous projects.

Ability to work independently. Ability to organize workload and establish priorities in executing a wide variety of functions while maintaining accuracy, reliability and confidentiality with a minimum of supervision.
