Senior GIS Analyst at Freeport-McMoRan (Phoenix, AZ)

To provide technical input in the development, implementation and maintenance of the Land and Water enterprise GIS platform; to develop implementation strategies for GIS technologies for internal stakeholders to maximize multi discipline usage of GIS data; to develop and maintain GIS information and supporting databases for mineral management.


  • Development of GIS applications to integrate existing and new GIS data into internal stakeholders business practices including creation of python scripts for automation of data updates to SQL and PI databases and map services
  • Develops, plans, and implements complex GIS analysis tools for the system users and operators; designs and develops complex GIS database models and templates including mineral management of unpatented claims, areas of interest and notices of location
  • Participates in the development, maintenance and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the security of GIS information
  • Assists with administration of GIS servers by developing scripts for streamlining processes
  • Performs other duties as required


Minimum Qualifications


  • Bachelors degree in Computer Science, Geography or related field, and at least four (4) years of experience with GIS software, including experience with GIS mining work (notices of location, unpatented claim & area of interest) and database work (SWL & PI farms); OR
  • Masters degree in Computer Science, Geography or related field, and at least two (2) years of experience with GIS software, including experience with GIS mining work (notices of location, unpatented claim & area of interest) and database work (SWL & PI farms)
  • Capable of working in a dynamic, team-based environment
  • Ability to fulfill both leadership and team support roles
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Familiarity of technical mining, legal, water, and land related terms
  • Capable of organizing and managing multiple complex tasks
  • Capable of working under pressure with frequent priority changes
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook
  • Ability to develop and maintain awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions
  • Skilled in following safety practices and recognizing hazards


Preferred Qualifications


  • Previous experience in the design, modeling, implementation and maintenance of a geospatial database including SQL
  • Previous experience identifying and evaluating potential GIS applications in an Enterprise environment
  • Previous experience within an ESRI Portal Environment

  • Ability to understand and apply verbal and written work and safety-related instructions and procedures given in English
  • Ability to communicate in English with respect to job assignments, job procedures, and applicable safety standards
  • Must be able to work in a potentially stressful environment
  • Personal protective equipment is required when performing work in a mine, outdoor, manufacturing or plant environment, including hard hat, hearing protection, safety glasses, safety footwear, and as needed, respirator, rubber steel-toe boots, protective clothing, gloves and any other protective equipment as required
