As a SIMON backend engineer, you will define and implement the systems that power the largest Structured Products platform in existence today, and help to expand it to other product classes. We are looking for exceptional engineers who are passionate about building elegant, powerful systems. Responsibilities
- Use technologies such as Scala, Akka, ElasticSearch and Kafka to deliver features on our platform and build elegant APIs that clients will love
- Optimize backend performance by carefully designing our distributed architecture
- Use cloud-first modern build tooling like Docker and Kubernetes to quickly iterate on valuable features
- Collaborate with Quant engineers to make state-of-the-art pricing and analytics electronically accessible on the platform
- Expand SIMON solutions to new product classes such as insurance
- Collaborate with other engineers, designers and members of the business team to improve the profitability of our business
Basic Qualifications
- BS/MS in Computer Science or related field
- Proficiency in a backend programming language
- General understanding of how the web works
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience building APIs for large-scale applications
- Knowledge of the JVM and JVM-based languages like Java, Scala, Kotlin, Clojure
- Passionate about modern backend architecture -- You’re comfortable with microservices and monoliths and can tell us why you prefer one over the other.
- Experience in functional programming and experience with toolkits such as Akka or Vert.x
- Strong interest in learning about financial products and markets
- Passionate about entrepreneurship in the FinTech space
