Job Summary



Cosmic AES is seeking full-time engineers to support Department of Defense customers in the development of methods to find, fix, and track adversaries operating advanced satellite-based systems. We use Agile development methods to build unique projects around motivated individuals and their strengths. Each engineer will have the opportunity to incorporate their own skills and ideas into the DNA of the final project, and to grow alongside other RF, signals, space and cyber experts supporting the warfighter.



Responsibilities and Duties




  • The primary responsibilities for this project include designing, developing, maintaining, and testing code using prototype systems.

  • The engineers will use embedded development and design methodologies appropriate to rapid prototyping.

  • Other expected work may include: Provide specific input to the components of system design to include hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of Commercial Off-the-shelf (COTS)/Government Off-the-shelf (GOTS) solutions in place of new development.

  • Requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual components.

  • Review and test components for adherence to the design requirements, and document test results. Resolve software problem/deficiency reports.

  • Active communication and participation in the full software / systems development lifecycle, leveraging Agile methodologies. All positions require a BS or MS in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or Computer Engineering.



Qualifications and Skills




  • Candidate must be a US Citizen and must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret Security Clearance

  • BS or MS Degree in CS, EE, or CE, with software emphasis and relevant work experience

  • Experience with object-oriented software development (e.g., C++, Python, Java)

  • Experience in software design, engineering and development skills, including familiarity with modern software development practices and tools

  • Proficiency implementing algorithms in a framework such as Python, C, or C++

  • Solid experience developing in a Linux (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu) or embedded Linux environment

  • Demonstrated experience with code management / versioning tools such as GIT or SVN

  • Experience integrating diverse and novel components into both new and pre-existing platforms

  • Proficient in building, testing, and debugging software applications

  • Experience writing and delivering technical documents and briefings



Desired Qualifications




  • Develop software solutions that can be easily tailored to Commercial off-the-Shelf (COTS) and Government off-the-Shelf (GOTS) systems

  • Technical curiosity, flexibility, and a desire to expand your skill set into new areas

  • Experience with common electronics laboratory test equipment (e.g. oscilloscopes, signal generators, spectrum analyzers)

  • Proficiency in working with hardware communications protocols: JTAG, EJTAG, SPI, I2C, UART, etc.

  • Working knowledge of embedded systems development and toolchains using C and assembly language

  • Familiarity with ICE cards, GNU Radio, and software defined radio (SDR) concepts

  • Fundamental understanding of Digital Signal Processing concepts:  Transform theory, sampling theory, filter design/implementation, common signal processing operations (correlation, convolution, etc.)

  • Fundamental understanding of Communication System Theory:  Digital Modulation (PSK, QAM, OFDM, etc.), Forward Error Correction, Carrier Frequency/Phase Tracking, Spread Spectrum Techniques, RF Link Analysis

  • Demonstrated cultural and interpersonal skills to effectively interact with all teams, areas and levels of business

  • Self-motivated and independent with a passion for change and ongoing improvement

  • Critical thinker with sound judgment for complex problem solving and decision making

  • Experience with Agile Methodologies

  • Candidates with current SSBI security clearance preferred
