Sr. Embedded Software Developer & Reverse Engineer at JHU Applied Physics Laboratory (Laurel, MD)

Job Summary:


Work with researchers and developers to develop novel software applications compatible with a variety of embedded devices in support of various Government sponsors.


Duties:
1. Participate and potentially lead teams in the analysis and reverse engineering of embedded platform firmware and operating systems to understand security vulnerabilities. (35%)


2. Build a deep understanding of poorly-documented interfaces by dissecting and reverse engineering existing code and binaries, with a focus on how these interfaces affect overall system security. Using knowledge gained through the application of reverse-engineering and other research techniques, design and develop low-level C and assembly applications for embedded ARM platforms that interface directly with platform hardware. (35%)


3. Develop and execute test plans to ensure all requirements of developed capabilities are fully satisfied. (15%)


4. Prepare technical reports, present results, and demonstrate system capabilities to peer review groups, managers, and sponsors. (15%)



Required Qualifications



  • BS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or related field with 10+ years related experience with strong C/C++ development skills and a fundamental understanding of embedded software architecture and development.

  • Demonstrated excellent interpersonal skills, the ability to work independently and on a team, outstanding written and oral communication skills, and good organizational skills.

  • Ability to obtain a Security Clearance


Desired Qualifications:



  • MS in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field with 15 years related experience.

  • 15 years or more experience in embedded platform-level software development and reverse engineering desired.

  • 5+ years experience in technical leadership.

  • Prior experience working with DoD and IC communities.
