Are you looking for a chance to lead a team?
Would you like to create technology that benefits young people during key periods of their life?
If so, we have a great opportunity for you…
Firefly are a leading SaaS EdTech company, providing web and mobile-based learning platforms to UK state and independent schools. We have over 400,000 students using the app in over 500 schools around the world and we have ambitions to become a global leader in education technology.
To facilitate our continuous expansion, we’ve recently re-organised our engineering teams into two squads with a focus on customer acquisition and customer retention respectively: Reach and Engagement. These squads are formed from a mix of developers, testers and designers, who work alongside a Product Manager and Squad Lead to build feature requests. They have a huge amount of input into the final product, weighing in on architecture and build choices, defining user stories and taking ownership of delivery.
The Firefly Front-end team currently holds two strong mid-level Developers who are responsible for all aspects of the UI and UX on our platform with support from the back-end engineers and a dedicated design team. We are now hiring a Lead Front End Developer to take on ownership of this team, including line management for our two existing developers and technical strategy for the Front-end, reporting into our CTO.
The majority of work, at least early on, will be assisting the team to deliver new features in React + Redux, migrating legacy components into our React pattern library and depending on the project, you'll sit in one of our two engineering squads. Once acquainted with the systems and processes in place at Firefly, you'll begin to review the current architecture, tech setup and tooling. You'll look for improvements, make technical suggestions, and work with the existing Front-end Developers to begin to plan out the future of the function.
To be successful as the Lead Front End Developer you will need:
- Experience of creating Single Page Applications using any JavaScript framework
- Experience influencing tech decision making around architecture, best practice and tooling in a previous role as at least a senior developer
- Excellent JavaScript fundamentals as well as understanding of CSS principles
- Experience with both unit testing and integration testing
- Experience mentoring and upskilling developers in the past
We believe this is an amazing opportunity for a Senior Front End Developer to step into leadership role reporting directly to the CTO. You will have our full support to learn what is required to run a successful team and autonomy around decisions regarding architecture, technology and best practices for an enterprise SaaS product in collaboration with your team.
Do not miss this amazing opportunity and apply now!
Firefly Learning work in partnership with Talent Point, a Hiring Communications business, who have designed this role on behalf of Firefly. When you apply, Will or Abbie will give you a call to tell you even more details about the role and help you through every step of the process.
