Job Description
Your Mission
Establish Pie as the preeminent commercial insurer by ensuring small business owners have a seamless shopping experience while using our platform.
How You’ll Do It
As a DevOps Engineer and key Engineering team member at Pie, you own production support. Production support includes the deployment, monitoring and operations of our platform. Your work will be absolutely critical to our collective ability to build, automate and streamline operations and processes across Pie.
There’s a good bit of fire-fighting in a highly dynamic startup environment, so you should enjoy rapid problem-solving and root cause analysis. Expect to build and maintain tools for deployment, monitoring and operations so you become more effective in your ability to troubleshoot and resolve issues across our dev, test and production environments.
Pie’s Engineering team works out of both Denver and DC, but don’t let the geographical divide fool you. This incredibly collaborative team is in tight, constant communication as we design, deploy, operate and support our systems.
Qualifications
Whether It’s Right For You
The impact of our DevOps Engineer’s work is significant for our customer experience and success as a whole. That means we need you to be an incredibly hands-on problem solver who can work under pressure, especially when fires are burning.
This is an exciting opportunity for an engineer seeking to hone her or his skillset. We expect you’ll have spent at least two years in a DevOps and/or Systems Administration role. Of course, you’ll also need certain skills and abilities to do the work:
- Ability to manage Continuous Integration (CI) and Continuous Deployment (CD) infrastructure on AWS
- Ability to troubleshoot/maintain a RabbitMQ cluster
- Experience managing container orchestration clusters such as Kubernetes or Docker Swarm
- Experience with Consul, Sonatype Nexus, Team City and/or Octopus a plus
- Prior experience with AWS or an AWS certification is strongly preferred
- Ability to quickly adapt to new functional and technical environments as Pie grows
The following behaviors or competencies will ensure you thrive in our culture:
- You proactively bring issues and recommended solutions to your leaders.
- Ownership. You want your work product to be better than you and to bring success to our customers and to Pie.
- You work hard to deliver for your clients with an incredible sense of urgency. Their experience with Pie hinges upon your execution.
- Expect to share your ideas, to challenge others and to be challenged.
- Your communication style is candid yet compassionate. In a startup with limited resources, we need to communicate and work as quickly and effectively as possible.
- You share your knowledge in ways that position the team for exponential growth. We aren’t here to compete with one another; we are in it to win it, together.
- You share our passion for the small business community.
Additional Information
You will be joining our team in either our Denver, Colorado, or Washington, DC, office.
All of your information will be kept confidential according to EEO guidelines.
