The Infrastructure Group (TIG) in the Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Lab (CSAIL) at MIT seeks an experienced Ruby on Rails Web Developer to assume a hands-on, web-based application development position to work with clients and other team members to develop new highly efficient tools and maintain already existing code base.



Responsibilities:



  • Participate in all stages of the web application development lifecycle, from requirements gathering to production implementation

  • Update and maintain existing in-house Rails applications

  • Port older Rails applications to Rails 5

  • Develop web application tools with an emphasis on usability and accessibility

  • Estimate new projects and deliver high quality code on time and within budget

  • Collaborate with clients to gather and clarify requirements as well as support their day-to-day business activities

  • Collaborate with team members to integrate existing infrastructure services such as authentication, directory services, other websites, etc.

  • Oversee back-end database architecture, web application framework, front-end graphical and user interface design, usability testing, software testing, and quality assurance

  • Other projects as requested



Requirements:



  • Bachelor's degree

  • Five-plus years of web application development experience in a UNIX/Linux environment

  • Demonstrated experience developing and maintaining database-backed web applications

  • Demonstrated proficiency in Ruby on Rails (xperience in other languages and/or frameworks a plus)

  • Solid working knowledge of XML, CSS, AJAX, JQuery, JavaScript, and DOM

  • Demonstrated ability to manage production workflows via Capistrano or similar tools

  • Strong relational database experience in PostgreSQL, and/or MySQL

  • Ability to identify and implement automation tasks

  • Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative approach to innovation, problem solving, and working with both technical and nontechnical staff

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proven ability to meet deadlines and manage competing priorities

  • Flexibility and ability to multitask and stay organized in a dynamic work environment

  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team



Must be able and willing to work evening and weekends as part of an on-call rotation.
