Production Support Engineer at JP Morgan Chase (Wilmington, DE)

A Production Support Engineer is dedicated to ensuring that the suite of global applications and infrastructure are available and supported in line with defined service level agreements. The role will include involvement in frontline support, incident management and reporting, root cause analysis, productivity efficiencies & improvements and providing support during pre-production change management cycles. They will partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to balance production stability with customer obsession. They will also leverage their production support experience to identify and engineer solutions for chronic issues and automation initiatives that reduce toil.

Roles & Responsibilities


  • Provide daily support of the production environment and take ownership in managing and resolving issues and problems encountered in a timely manner to ensure minimum disruption to internal and external clients


  • Leverage production support findings to identify and implement automation initiatives that reduce toil and time to resolve


  • Interact with various teams to ensure a stable production environment, including but not limited to client facing support, application developers, business analysts, infrastructure, build & deployment and quality assurance


  • Act as the custodian of the production environment and adhere to and promote strict project lifecycle methodologies while ensuring all relevant change management procedures are being followed


  • Develop strong working relationships with the business and aligned application and infrastructure support teams to assist in support issue prioritization


  • Perform timely escalation of critical production incidents and proactively identify patterns of recurring incidents to improve service stability


  • Develop and utilize core support tools and processes to perform work while improving day to day practices for support team members with the goal of delivering service improvements to the business


  • Drive efficiency and automation in order to eliminate chronic issues and reduce toil


  • Maintain documentation on issue corrective actions in-line with best practice to ensure knowledge accessibility and continuous learning across the team


Key Skills & Experience
Essential:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical area


  • 5+ years of related IT experience in prod support, engineering, system administration or application development


  • Excellent working knowledge of production support role


  • Experience with incident and change management


  • Aptitude for learning and complex problem solving, advanced analytic skills


  • Working knowledge of at least one Database Server -  Sybase, Oracle, MS SQL, or Cassandra


  • Working knowledge of Unix/Linux and/or Windows  Server


  • Working knowledge of Networking TCP/IP, DNS, Global Load Balancing, Local Load Balancing


  • Working knowledge of at least one Scripting Language Bash, Perl, Ksh, Ruby,  or Python


  • Experience with scheduling tools such as Control M and/or Autosys 


  • Ability to thrive in fast paced environment


  • Ability to prioritize work load, multi task and react quickly to meet business expectations


  • Ability to fully document solutions


  • Proactive, adaptive, independent and self-managing with proven capability to lead a project initiative


  • Effectively adapt to necessary changes in work requirements, roles and responsibilities


  • Ability to understand, adhere to and suggest improvements to internal IT control policy and industry best-practice


  • You will be supporting Global systems working closely with team members in various locations, so excellent communication skills are being sought in candidates


  • Strong verbal and written communication across all levels in the organization


  • Ability to clearly articulate complex issues/topics


  • Excellent interpersonal skills 


  • Able to rapidly understand and retain knowledge of business processes and the technology systems


  • Customer Service Oriented - build positive working relationships with clients at all times, providing clear information while managing their expectations


Desirable:


  • Application development or engineering experience


  • Experience with Monitoring Tools such as Splunk, Wily, DynaTrace or Geneos


  • Working knowledge of at least one Clustering Technology Symantec Veritas Clustering or Windows Clustering


  • Working knowledge of Tomcat and/or IBM WebSphere


  • Working knowledge of Apache, IHS, or IIS


  • Experience with building or supporting Cloud Technology such as AWS, Cloud Foundry or Google Cloud     


  • JPMorgan Chase or other financial industry experience


  • Familiarity with Ansible or other automation tools


  • Familiarity with data storage technology SAN or NAS


  • Development Experience in an Advanced Programming Language such as Java or C++ 


  • Familiarity with Virtualization Technologies ESX and/or AIX LPAR


  • Financial industry knowledge


  • Capacity Management experience


  • Familiarity with risk and controls and its role in application support


  • Familiarity with Agile development


  • MQ/UM experience


  • Capacity Management experience


  • ITIL Certification is beneficial but not required
