Database Developer (Req. 27860)



The Database Developer provides database support for Undergraduate Education Information Technology (UIT) as well as Summer Sessions and International Education (SSIEO).



Responsibilities:



• Planning databases, including schema definition, structure, documentation, long-range requirements, data security, operational guidelines and protection. Ensures accuracy and completeness of data in master files and various support tools.



• Establish database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables. Database support includes management of Microsoft SQL Server, SQL Integration Services (SSIS) creation and maintenance, SQL Reporting Services (SSRS) infrastructure support and maintenance.



• Create new and maintain legacy stored procedures.



• Support of new application development with data modeling and data level consulting in concert with business analysts and application development groups.



• Troubleshooting performance bottlenecks and deploying production fixes.



• Deploy QA and Production database objects.



• Set up and maintain development database environments.



• Maintain jobs and perform database administration tasks to ensure business continuity. Creation and maintenance of reports deployed through SSRS, through web front ends, Excel and other third party applications as needed.

• Detailed knowledge of database servers, TSQL and stored procedures, data integration services configuration, package authoring and deployment.



• Detailed knowledge of data modeling, database tuning and policy management.



• Possess skills and knowledge to apply theory and put it into practice with in-depth understanding of databases.



• Broad knowledge relating to database administration, development, and system design.



• Knowledge or ability to learn of Software Development Life Cycles (SDLC) protocols and version control systems.



• Demonstrates good judgment, reasoning and decision-making; problem/issues identification and ability to develop original ideas for resolution of diverse scope; identifying measures of system performance and the actions to improve performance through application configuration and programming techniques.



• Ability to multi-task and set priorities, which accurately reflect the importance of job responsibilities.



• Ability to complete a heavy workload in a timely manner when there are competing and diverse requirements and under pressure of deadlines.



• Has effective written and verbal communication skills. Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, books, and periodicals. Excellent writing, editing, and proofing skills to develop comprehensive and well organized reports, proposals, technical reports concerning feasibility studies, systems requirements and design, and detailed processing requirements. Excellent oral communication skills to interact with management, technical, and end-user staff, on a one-to-one basis and in-group presentations.
