Our DevOps Engineers could be based in our Bristol, Cardiff or Copley (West Yorkshire) offices.


As a DevOps Engineer in our central team, you will work in a highly collaborative way to drive efforts to build, support and improve our tools for Continuous Integration, automated testing and release management. We expect that you’ll demonstrate and apply exemplary engineering practices to increase agility, improve quality and help reduce downtime in all our solutions.


As DevOps is not a “thing you do” but a cultural change more than anything, you’re also expected to drive this change and ensure that we embed agile and DevOps principles in everything we do.


We want to see placement of these skills in context – why they matter, what value they bring, how to get the most from them, how to evolve them and spread them further within the organisation.


This role may be worked as a job share therefore you are welcome to apply as an individual reduced hours applicant, or alongside another candidate. It is also very important to understand and apply industry best practices, foster knowledge sharing to provide solutions for complex business problems where no precedent may exist, and ensure implementation of solutions where appropriate. 


What we look for:


ESSENTIAL



  • Experience in day-to-day administration of Jira & Confluence including operational support, troubleshooting, tuning, upgrade & optimization.

  • Experience with customising Jira & Confluence (develop plugin and scripts) and other application integrations.

  • Current knowledge of Java, JavaScript, HTML, Groovy, SQL, Bash and UNIX command line tools. Hands-on experience in writing code is a must.

  • Demonstrable experience in Release Engineering, DevOps and Configuration Management


NICE TO HAVE



  • Good understanding of TomCat including JVM tuning and Apache.

  • Experience across the entire software development life-cycle from inception, through build to production

  • Strong familiarity with source code repositories and change management tools, particularly Git.

  • Experience with a configuration and deployment management tools is an advantage, e.g. UrbanCode, Ansible, Puppet, Chef

  • Understanding of IT Service Management and project management methods

  • A “can-do” attitude, capability of bootstrapping projects, and ability to effectively work with multi-disciplinary, internal and external distributed teams across the project lifecycle

  • Strong familiarity with source code repositories and change management tools, particularly Git

  • Familiarity with agile development practices, continuous integration and test automation (TDD, BDD, Selenium)

  • Experience automating release and build processes using Jenkins

  • Experience across the entire software development life-cycle from inception, through build to production
