User Interface Engineer at RIPE NCC (Amsterdam, Netherlands)

Get paid to try out new stuff

We’re at work for a third of our waking week: make sure it counts for something. Join us in making the Internet a better place for everyone. Our downtown Amsterdam office has fantastic views and a convenient barista bar, but it has a hole shaped a bit like this:

User Interface Engineer
Amsterdam (next to Central Station)
Full-time (37.5 hours per week)

Here's what you'll be involved in

You’ll be part of our Research and Development Team. You’ll be involved in Internet-related research and development for the benefit of the Internet community. The primary systems for these measurements are RIPE Atlas and RIPEstat. You’ll help us develop client-side interfaces for these, and other, Internet measurement systems.

Essential qualifications

In addition to the general qualifications, we are specifically looking for:

  • Good knowledge of modern JavaScript (ES2015+) and tooling like webpack/rollup, babel, npm/yarn. We are moving all of our code to modern JavaScript, so we would like you to have a big hand in this process

  • Affinity with User Interface Design and solid understanding of User Experience (UX) aspects. You will play an important role in developing new UI designs as well as upgrading older ones. You’ll not only need to understand the functional requirements for a design, but also to enhance the visual quality of our services

  • The ability to use visualisation libraries (like d3.js and three.js) with grace and care. We handle lots of data in our visualisations and regularly push the libraries to their max

We’d also like you to have

  • Knowledge of node.js

  • Some knowledge of one or more of the popular frameworks React, Vue, Angular or Ember

  • Basic understanding of networking protocols, especially TCP/IP, DNS and BGP

It would be awesome if you

  • Could amaze us with a webGL or SVG animation demo

  • Have web application programming experience using UNIX/Linux server architectures

  • Have experience using git and CI tools (e.g. Jenkins)

Salary

The annual salary for this position is between EUR 42,600 and EUR 61,300 (before tax). This includes the standard 8% annual “holiday pay” and a 5% end-of-year bonus.

At the RIPE NCC, we respect and facilitate a proper work-life balance for our staff. We work in an open and friendly atmosphere, and we are open to your feedback. We offer excellent secondary benefits to our employees, including relocation, 30 days' vacation (in addition to public holidays) and a generous training allowance.

How to apply:

Please apply using our webform. Don't forget to include a cover letter – we disregard applications if they don't have one.

If you are selected, we will invite you for an online interview. If we decide to continue the process, you will be invited for a face-to-face interview in our office.

Pre-employment screening will be part of the process.
