Lead Embedded Software Engineer
Opportunity Profile:
We have an exciting opportunity for the guy or gal that likes to do many things software. We're a $50M business in a $2B company focused on building products for Industrial Automation and Networking applications all around the world. Our company is doing a lot of cool things from RS485 (really) to wireless and loT and cloud native distributed networking for Industrial Automation. Our markets include Manufacturing, Oil & Gas, Energy Production and Distribution, Consumer Packaging and even Water/Waste Water.  



We need a person who likes being part of a small team, taking responsibility, initiative and acting in various roles but not acting up. You'll need to do coding and design work, review other people's designs (internal, CM and remote/offshore partner designs), work directly with Operations and Manufacturing, Hardware Engineering, Test, Product Management and even Technical Support. We are looking for a Lead Software Engineering who enjoys variety and has a background with various aspects and types of software development and team leadership.
 
One must demonstrate proficiency in C development and ideally have a working knowledge of embedded systems design and/or Windows application design. Job Description:
We are looking for a talented developer to help build our new Ethernet and wireless communication devices.  Are you a fast and reliable worker?  Do you like working in casual and fun environment?  Do you want to build products that will be deployed all over the world?  Then ProSoft Technology has a spot for you in our Bakersfield, CA headquarters.
 
Key Responsibilities:



  • Adopt a hands-on approach to leading software development projects and teams

  • Lead new software design initiatives and support existing protocols, features

  • Develop and integrate firmware from early concept phase through release to manufacturing

  • Assist Hardware Engineers in new product bring-up

  • Use source control (GIT, SVN, PVCS) and bug tracking (JIRA)

  • Contribute bug fixes and solutions for customer issues

  • Help to define the process and best practices of the team

  • Develop design and test documents and procedures

  • Mentor Junior Software Engineers and skilled Hardware Engineers in software development


Qualifications:
Requirements:



  • 5-10 years' experience in software development for embedded products such as networks, industrial gateways, wireless products and the like

  • Excellent verbal and written English language and communication skills

  • Embedded Linux experience and real-time scheduling and synchronization techniques

  • Strong design and programming experience in C and C++ for embedded products

  • Industrial Automation Protocol experience, e.g. Ethernet/IP, Modbus, Modbus TCP, OPC-UA and solutions for customer issues

  • Ability to debug problems and communicate across disciplines with a variety of people globally

  • Ability to prioritize in a dynamic work environment

  • Physical ability to lift small items such as a computer laptop, Oscilloscope or mobile phone

  • Ability to travel overnight up to 20% of the time.  Although travel may not be frequent, there may some short term assignments at one of our sites 



Desired Experience/Skills:



  • Team leadership and/or first line people management

  • JIRA and/or Agile development experience

  • Development for containers and microservices

  • Development experience in C# for Windows Applications

  • Experience working with Linux on embedded systems

  • Working knowledge of networking concepts

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a small local team or remote teams with broad experience levels
