Back End Developer at Spoonflower (Durham, NC)

We are seeking a mid/senior level Back End Developer to help us build out our product offering and develop new features. This position is best suited for a creative, experienced engineer who lives and breathes Ruby on Rails. The ideal candidate should be able to provide meaningful collaboration, work well with tight-knit engineering, product, marketing and design teams and be excited for the opportunity to contribute directly to the development and maintenance of Spoonflower's technology and community.


This position will be responsible for the following:



  • Continuously improving the existing codebase.

  • Monitoring quality, optimizing performance, and developing test coverage and methodologies for continuous code release.

  • Participating in code reviews.

  • Developing new functionality, available via APIs.

  • Working on image processing (generation of previews for example).

  • Migrating old functionality to a service-oriented architecture.


Who Are We Looking For?


If you have the following background, along with an interest in helping to continue building our business, we are looking for you!



  • Experience in a professional setting

  • Skills in Ruby on Rails heavily preferred

  • Skills in SQL - MySQL or similar

  • Experience with writing APIs and integrating with APIs a plus

  • Experience in image processing (Image Magick or similar) is a plus

Other requirements:



  • Articulate, concise and professional written and verbal communications with working English proficiency in speaking and writing

  • Adapt to changes in the work environment, manage competing demands and is able to deal with frequent change, delays or unexpected events

  • Passion for design, innovation and out-of-the-box solutions

  • An affinity for crafting or the DIY movement in general preferred
