Engineering Manager - Marketing Technology at GetYourGuide AG (Berlin, Germany)

We are looking for a hands-on Engineering Manager to lead people, guide technical architecture decisions and help push the boundaries by developing the next generation of our in-house systems in the realm of Performance Marketing.  You will assume line management for 6 engineers working in 3 cross-functional missions teams with other top-notch developers, analysts, data scientists and product managers.  This is your chance to write code, develop people and build systems that have a direct impact on the business!

Marketing Technology Team Mission:

This group is part of the Performance Marketing department and responsible for the development, maintenance and technical vision of the core systems.  We aim to be at the cutting edge of advertising technologies and partner with business stakeholders to develop the most impactful features to connect customers with the most relevant tours and activities in our inventory.  We have touch points across the business and aim to solve problems at scale with systems that manage 10s of millions of ads.


  • Lead architecture discussions and develop next generation systems

  • Lead and grow your direct reports helping them to achieve their potential

  • Partner with our business and technical teams to deliver innovative solutions

  • Review ongoing SEM efforts, identify opportunities and explore new areas

  • Be part of the engineering leadership team shaping the culture at the company

  • Be involved in hiring not only for your team but also others in the company

  • Occasional business travel between Berlin and Zurich


  • Minimum of 2+ years of direct people management in technical teams

  • Minimum of 5+ years of software development experience

  • Highly proficient in backend Python coding, best practices and libraries

  • Passionate about business results & people not just technical excellence

  • Solid understanding of SQL including complex queries and optimization

  • Experience with the architecture and deployment of complex systems

  • Ability to turn ideas into fast, reliable and maintainable code

  • Customer-centric prioritization and data drive decision making

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English

Nice to have:

  • Experience with large scale data processing using Apache Spark

  • Experience with data topics (analytics, monitoring, ETL, pipelines, etc.)

  • Developed against advertising APIs (Google Adwords, Facebook, etc.)

  • Prior experience with paid advertising channels

  • Prior experience in start-up environments
