About the Position
FiscalNote is looking for a Director of Data Operations to lead our growing Data Operations team composed of data engineers, data and research analysts. You will play a key role in executing FiscalNote’s mission to collect, ingest, augment, and maintain one of the largest collections of unstructured and structured data relating to policy, policymakers, and governments across countries and levels of government. You will work closely with partners in Product, Engineering and Data Science to develop our data strategy. You will also be responsible for the implementation of technical standards for our information architecture, including improving the speed-to-platform of new data, building our technology platforms and processes for scale creating both automated and manual data ingestion and refinement tools and technologies and overseeing data quality.

You Will:
- Lead and grow the Data Operations team, managing and coaching a diverse team of data engineers, analysts, and researchers to bring out the best in them
- Stay on top of tech trends and new data technologies, participate in technology communities, and encourage a growth mindset
- Develop and implement company-wide data strategy, technical standards and processes for data collection, ingestion, and refinement
- Establish and continuously improve data, analysis, and engineering practices
- Work with stakeholders to identify and prioritize the acquisition of new data sets
- Understand internal and external data sources, data flows, and end-user data requirements
- Understand tradeoffs of and guide development of fully automated, human-in-the-loop, and manual collection, ingestion, and refinement tools and platforms
- Increase understanding and utilization of data assets by internal stakeholders with the development of a catalog of data and metadata assets
- Provide internal and external representation for Data Operations in discussions of data assets
- Work with stakeholders to define and implement data governance and data quality policies, requirements, and metrics
- Create, maintain, and present data quality metrics and trends to internal and external stakeholders

- Blend of technology, business, and customer understanding to provide guidance on technology standards while focusing on the customer and business value
- Experience managing and leading a team of data professionals
- Experience defining and implementing data engineering practices, and a strong understanding of different information and data architectures
- Demonstrated operational success in translating business needs to technology and data needs, including leading process and project management
- Experience working in a global environment and leading across cultures
- Strong problem solving, strategic thinking, interpersonal, and troubleshooting skills with experience managing multiple stakeholders and prioritizing work to meet deadlines and objectives
- Clear communication skills- Knowledge of relational databases, including SQL preferred
