About this Position
We are looking for a technologist who’s been in the weeds of cloud computing, has been bitten by the complexity of it and is ready to help us make it dramatically simpler.
You will build and lead our first developer relations team. The purpose of this team is to be the most active, most ruthless and most sophisticated internal user of Gravitational solutions.
We are looking for a technology leader who is not afraid to get their hands dirty with cloud APIs, programming languages, and complex real-world use cases presented by our customers. At the same time, we expect you to be a great engineering manager, with an eye to discover and develop great talent.
You’ll help our customers go `hello world` to multi-cloud deployments painlessly. Leading with examples, and sample apps that’ll show them how our solutions take the drama out of on-prem deployments.
You should be passionate about making complexly dissolve, going from student to teacher, while being able to share your wisdom with the C-Suite to developers at the frontline. A Social media presence and experience with public speaking would be a big plus.
Responsibilities
You’ll be reporting directly to the CEO and your responsibilities will include:
- Work closely with the CEO and CTO to promote the company vision both internally and externally.
- Presenting at conferences and meetups.
- Oversee the development of code examples and demo environments.
- Assisting sales (sales engineering), setting up a proof of concept environments (POCs) for potential customers.
- Manage the production of technical collateral which will be used by the marketing team to produce blog posts, e-books, printed materials and so on.
- Regularly interact with customers and the open-source community to solicit product usage feedback.
Tech
A candidate must understand how computers work and what role an operating system plays. A candidate should know why the Linux kernel is written in C and not any other language, know what a syscall is, and be comfortable exploring /proc and /sys.
We expect the candidates to have hands-on experience developing applications in the past, who’re transitioning into the more marketing-oriented role. Ideally, you should be an expert in the following:
- Modern CI/CD best practices for complex cloud applications.
- Kubernetes and other forms of container-based orchestration.
- Linux internals such as networking, kernel capabilities, etc.
- Cloud security and network security (SSH).
- Up to date knowledge of popular cloud platforms, including AWS.
- Recent experience with popular DevOps tools like Ansible or Terraform.
- Recent programming experience.
Past experience with bare-metal provisioning, PXE-booting, VMware and Open Stack are more than welcome.
