Job Description:
  • The Child Care and Development Block Grant (CCDBG) Act is the law that authorizes the Child Care and Development Fund (CCDF), the primary Federal funding source devoted to providing low-income families that are working or participating in education and training with help paying for child care and improving the quality of child care for all children.
  • The law establishes minimum standards, training, and monitoring requirements to ensure that child care used by children receiving CCDF financial assistance protects their health and safety, in part by requiring that all States use the same set of comprehensive background checks for all child care teachers and staff.
  • As a result of significant changes to federal regulations, the Department of Early Education and Care (EEC) and the client must enhance its Background Record Check process.

Overview:
  • The front-end developer position will work with a cross-functional team to develop, enhance and maintain HTML/CSS/JS across a suite of applications.
  • Familiarity with front-end best practices, ADA compliance, responsive layout, Bootstrap, SASS/LESS, and javascript are required.
  • Day-to-day tasks will include working with engineering team for developing and testing responsive screens, working with ADA consultants on ensuring site is accessible, and architecting CSS and markup for readability and extensibility.
Tasks and Deliverables:
  • Develops work flow diagrams, data flow diagrams and data mapping documents. Creates functional specifications, designs, and wireframes from business requirements used to develop software applications.
  • Codes application elements using Ruby on Rails, CSS/SCSS/HTML, and HTML5 and checks all code in/out of a central repository to ensure code integrity and version control.
  • Writes well-tested Ruby code to develop new applications, fix bugs, and create new enhancements in existing or new web applications.
  • Creates normalized data models and schemas based on analyzing business processes and legacy data.
  • Configures and deploys multi-tiered cloud-based application infrastructure.
  • Configures and deploys continuous integration service to ensure rapid deployment of tested features.
  • Works with web administrator for all web application releases and product integration.
  • Provides quality control/assurance to systems and programming activities including determining root cause of form/feature failure, taking corrective actions, coordinating testing, and implementing changes.
  • Work with End Users to conduct prototype and pilot reviews to ensure functionality before full implementation.
  • Works with QA, and other IT staff, as warranted to expedite software fixes that affect production, data quality, and access.
  • Conducts code review of 3rd party vendor code and enforces Commonwealth of Massachusetts standards.
  • Conducts thorough research of existing and emerging technologies.
  • Communicates effectively and work with stakeholders, technical support staff, and project teams.
  • Experience building complex, algorithm-driven back-end services and leveraging multiple repository technologies
  • Experience designing and implementing elegant and robust web service APIs
  • Demonstrate competence with modern front-end toolkits, such as backbone, angular, ember, or react
