Duration: 4+ years

Clearance: Candidates must be US Citizens and able ot obtain and maintain a secret security clearance

Travel/Training: At homebase location for 1-2 months then travel to Orlando for 1 week training. May require occasional CONUS travel after training (1-3 weeks, two times per year average)

Hours: 40+ hours per week, shift schedule depends on location 

Required Certification: Comptia Security+ CE (required prior to training)

Rate: Flexible based on education/certifications and experience

Tasks

DBAs are expected to perform data management, maintain and perform backup/restore/disaster recovery plans and processes, and provide database/application support. This section further expands the general definition of DBAs into specific tasks that are common across the various sites to support the ALOU, CPE, and SOU.

The DBA works with other ALIS administrators at the same site and at other ALIS sites to provide and ensure complete oversight of the ALIS databases, network, and system. Both the Network Administrator and System Administrator rely upon the DBA in performing their tasks. The DBA provides inputs to the Network Administrator in determining the optimal time or period for the Network Administrator to perform network configuration changes in an effort to reduce the impacts to end users. The DBA assists the System Administrator in the backup / restore / disaster recovery planning through the system wide backup and restore process and by retaining essential data for future recovery. Finally, the DBA coordinates with Fort Worth DBAs to receive data downloads.

Data Management

  • Maintain, store, and manage data including: Air Vehicle (AV) and ALIS configuration, F-35 Fleet Management, Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS), reliability and maintainability (R&M), and Supply Chain Management (SCM) data.
  • Maintain Commercial-off-the-Shelf (COTS), Government Off-The-Shelf (GOTS) and Custom Applications providing data interchange.
  • Manage classified and sensitive data elements (including cryptographic key management) in accordance with program security policy.
  • Support troubleshooting of data problems and reconcile data anomalies.
  • Execute processes and procedures for Data Management (DM) library.
  • Support DM controls for the ALIS program.
  • Identify and mitigate DM Risk level.
  • Backup/Restore/Disaster Recovery
  • Run application for System settings and Registry backups.
  • Coordinate with the System Administrator to schedule local drive imaging to run on periodic intervals.
  • Perform backup to backup any live data directories on regular intervals.
  • Monitor and verify scheduled database backups of Oracle and MS SQL and ensure data is stored on tape on a regular basis such that data is fully recoverable in the event of data loss or corruption.
  • Perform appropriate procedures to perform recovery of ALIS system.

Database/Application Support

  • Install Joint-Service Technical Data (JTD) on the appropriate ALIS units at the site (task shared with System Administrator).
  • Perform “as required” manual adjustments to any database on the ALIS unit.
  • Configure ALIS applications, including but not limited to Failure Reporting, Analysis and Corrective Action System (FRACAS), CMMS, with the appropriate Commercial And Government Entity (CAGE) codes and part numbers.
  • Create user accounts as required.
  • Utilize CMMS-2 utilities to evaluate and scope errors, if any, before performing data import.
  • Support ALIS software release activities
  • Support ALIS implementation activities at site (e.g. standup of SOU at a site). Database
  • Administrators are responsible for DTRs to include SPIRs, MEFLs, NFLs, SDB, SBD,AFRS DB updates, etc.

Database Administrators (DBAs) develop and execute policies, practices and procedures that properly manage the full data lifecycle needs of ALIS. The DBAs are primarily concerned with ensuring data availability to users and the protection of that data from loss. DBA tasks include but are not limited to: data protection, availability, distribution, migration, warehousing, management, replication, redundancy, and security.

Skills & Knowledge Set

The DBA requires a particular set of skills and knowledge to adequately perform database administration, including data protection. While some of these skills and knowledge set may already exist in the designated administrator, these skills are typically developed through a training curriculum or by On-The-Job Training (OJT).
